How old should a child be to get a cell phone?

I looked in one of my presents and it had a cell phone dont tell!!!!!!!

When they are old enough to pay for it themselves. Before that time, if ther are hanging out at the mall or where then they should have one of those cute little phones that 3 years olds get that only dial Mom or Dad. (too bad, so sad, call your mom to pick your b**t up, no need to waste minutes and cash on talking to your friends you see everyday for 6 hours anyway)

i know 9 and 10 year olds that have cell phones. age doesnt matter, what matters is if the child is responsible enough to have one.

when the child can pay for the monthly fee. I work at Pizza Hut and just about all of the cooks(mostly 16 yr.old) and they pay for thier own phones and bills.
Kids are given things without working for them and don't take good care of what they get. One kid I know 10yrs. old,he dropped his in the lake and his parents replaced it at thier expense. the kid should have paid for it himself. He would take better care of it if he did.

they shouldt get cellphones. i hate it wen i see lil kids at the mall wit their cells trying to act all kool. u should be like 14 or 15 cuz that's wen u mite atleast have real friends that kall for a real reason

i think it depends... if you are an only child and your parents work alot then sure. if you constantly out doing things and none of your other friends have cell phones then maybe. i used to say "dad, all my friends have cell phones!!!" and he would say "good. then borrow theirs"!!!

if they are in high school, def should have one. if they go out a lot, def have one. if they are a nerd, shouldnt have one. tell ur parents they aresafety
