don't listen to all these judgemental people..we all make mistakes i was badly addicted to pot before i got pregnant with my first son. i quit right when i found out i was pregnant, i think your awesome that you gave up your addiction for your baby i know how hard it is. any ways just thought you could use some encouragement since you were getting all these vulger answers. the hospital can tell the difference from what they give you and what other things that are in your system so be careful of what your taking in, alot of things can harm your baby. they will test your babies blood most likely..

Because you admitted to drug use during your pregnancy, there is a good chance that they will test baby for drugs as well as the regular tests that they do. Usually they take blood from baby's heel.

Since they will know what meds they give you during labor, they will be able to tell the difference between those and any street drugs you might be using. If baby is positive, what happens depends on where you live. Some places might determine it best to take baby, others will have you go into some kind of rehab program (possibly just something like NA), take parenting classes and submit to random drug tests. Even if baby is removed from your custody, you'll still have a chance to get him or her back through cooperating with social services....I do hope that you are staying clean, for your sake and baby's....drugs can really mess a child up for life.

Yes they'll be able to tell the difference between street drugs and hospital drugs. They'll test by blood from the baby, when they do the other routine newborn test. Yes, the baby will have some of the pain meds you do, but it won't cause any problems with the baby. They don't use harmful ones anymore.

Yes they can tell the difference between street drugs and pain medication. Plus the baby will have side effects after birth if you were on street drugs. Such as they could have low birth weight, low blood sugars, shaking, crying, irritabilty. It is really sad. They will test her urine and bowels right away. It doesn't have to be the first time it can be any if the first is missed. If need be the blood can be tested they try not to give the baby anymore pain than it is already going to. best of luck to your newborn baby, and try to help others in your situation because it really is not fair to the unborn babies.

They will test the baby. However I will tell you that my niece (which I tried to tell her to leave the **** alone) decided that it would be ok to smoke weed here and there throughout her pregnancy. Well thankfully CPS didn't see it as something minor and took her kid away! I am thankful for that. They put her child in foster care for about 5 months and finally my niece did the right thing and signed the adoption papers. Though she had tested negative on every test after having the baby. So I say if you are such a sick person to put a child in danger by doing drugs you don't need the child and I pray CPS takes your child and puts it with a decent mother! By the way you have obviously never seen a baby that was born premature from it's idiot parent doing cocaine! I have I watched as my sister's baby suffered for 3 months and died. This baby ended up with seratia, bacterial meningitis, encephalitis, hydrocephalis, brain had holes ate through it, spinal cord damage, and gangrene! Very sad! Do the world a favor have yourself fixed.

They are going to test your child with a blood test. If your child tests positive for any of the drugs that were not given to you during labor, then they are going to take the child away from you until you can get clean and stay that way. I doubt that they are going to allow you to have meds when you go into labor, given you history, they don't want you to get hooked again.

The best thing you can do for your child is to stay clean and away from other drug users. Sure there is a chance your child will have a problem due to your early drug use. Make the best of it, and take the help that is offered, and seek help that you need.

I wish you the very best of luck. Having a child is a wonderful joy, but don't be fooled, it is a lot of hard work! Children will learn from example, so be the best example for them - stay clean and sober, be a positive role model.

They will test the baby's blood, usually this is the day you leave the hospital.

The medication will be out of the babies system by then, from whatever you took for labor. Street narcotics, things like pot and heroine, remain in the system for days, weeks, and even months, these are the things they test for.

When they test the baby's blood it will bring up a whole panel of any foreign chemicals present, along with the compounds of those chemicals, which is like a blue print of the drug they represent. Acording to how much of anything that is present, and what the compounds are, they can tell which is the drug they gave you for labor, and which is not.

Anybody calling you a crack whore is absolutely ridiculous. They have no room to talk, as we all make mistakes. I am sure you have changed since you are worrying about someone else's life now besides your own. I dont know how they will test the baby, but I am sure they are going to know the difference between street drugs and the pain medications.

Good luck, and I am sure the baby will be fine (and beautiful)

Oh, and P.S. I never did drugs, but I think you are AWESOME to admit to the doctors that you have. A lot of people lie about that kind of thing.

First of all yes they can tell the difference. That is why you can have a drug test come up dirty (like for a job) and then they ask what prescription medications you are taking and for a doctors note.

Secondly.... how dare any of you people judge???? At least she got prenatal care and at least she told the doctor of her drug use. Also at least she quit. I think any of you that want to judge should not have kids. No kid deserves to be brought up by ignorant people like you!!!! How dare you think you are so much better? Have you walked in her shoes?? Have you been through whatever she has??? I think not!!!!! None of you are better than her. I have NEVER done a drug in my life but, dammit, I wouldn't judge someone who was asking a question. Who do you think you are??? Oh wait, you must be judge, jury, and executioners right???

Sorry, forgot to put good luck and congrats on the baby!!!!
