shut the water off at the stool, and boil a gallon of water, I mean boiling, and pour it down the bowl. It will help break up the rice and beans, then flush several times.

Rice and beans shouldnt have caused a problem, are you sure a spoon wasnt accidently flushed with the rice and beans? or something else that was accidently left in the food?
Try the liquid plumber first but i doubt if it will open the drain, Sounds more like you have something solid stuck in the toilet, you may have to take the toilet up and remove the obstical and then replace the wax ring and bolt the toilet back down.
I have had the same thing happen several differant times and always there was something stuck inside the toilet.

I have found spoons, toys, hair rollers, a plastic piece from a foot massager and all kinds of weird things stuck in toilets

Beans and rice do swell but it is very unlikely that they will swell very much after you flushed them because they were already cooked

Got to answer this one.
A plumber friend had me rolling w/ stories about clogged toilets.
Rice & beans fits in with what he told me.
Some foods will absorb water & swell up.
Snake wouldnt clear it because it would just punch through
& the clog would close up again.
If you have to try DIY & youre lucky the clog is in the commode a snake & plunger might work.....eventually
Gets worse if further down .
Chemicals were not recommended for commode.
If the clog wont move, you have a pipe full of nasty stuff & .
If you need a plumber, he won't appreciate it.

Your toilet has been seriously clogged for 3 weeks, and you're too embarassed to tell your landlord? You're lucky that more than your toilet isn't seriously clogged! I think the time has come to talk to the landlord. Mind you, I wouldn't admit the rice/beans thing, but I'd still complain about the toilet.

Liquid Plumber and other products of that type will actually cause more problems. If you read the labels they are not for use in toilets. Try to pour large amounts of hot water down the toilet until it flushes itself. That works sometimes when too much toilet paper is put in and it works better than plungers.

i doubt if anything less than the roto router man is going to be much help. anyhow you would have never plugged a good drain. If this is a rented house you can rent a snake, take off the access cover in the basement and do it yourself. prepare for a mess. but its not hard. I have even had some sucess with a stiff garden hose flowing full bore. shove it in as far as it will go and let it flow.

and you're not too embarrassed to admit you flushed beans and rice down the toilet on the internet? hehehehehe...
one thing to remember- beans swell to twice their size in water. think that one through.
if you call your landlord, he will get a plumber to come out. he won't charge you, so you'll save $ buying all that crap from Lowes/Home Depot.
you might get funny looks, but if you overflow the toilet, you could risk ruining the floor, and be liable for repairs.

rice @ beans are alot smaller than a turd and handfulls of toilet paper. It's prob. tree roots in your pipe, Do the rest of your drains work ok, or is it just the toilet? If all drains are slow get it cleaned out by snaking it.
