where are the best places to visit while in NY city for just one day?

me and my sister and my cousin are taking a day trip to the big apple and want to know the best places to see. i know of central park and i want to visit rockefella plaza to see where they have the today show, but where else is good to go?? thanks oh and where to you find the best knock off bags?

I spent a week in NYC. Went to shows and general sight seeing. The best time of all was walking around Central Park and watching all the nuts hawking their wares or their act performing for a monetary handout. This activity is against the law and when a cop showed up they would all close their suitcases and such and flee the area only to come back later. Had lots of laughs.

You've received a lot of good suggestions. Consider, however, that if you only have one day there, what do you want to remember seeing? Some urban glitz or an awe-inspiring monument? Deciding this might give you a better kick-off point. I still remember going up to the crown of the Statue of Liberty as a kid (35+ years ago). Ellis Island would be extremely cool, as would a visit to the WTC site (I guess cool's not the right word there). The Empire State Building is still amazing..... Personally, with only one day, I wouldn't waste time chasing down knock-off bags.

Go see a play on Broadway!! Also, Madame Tusseaud's Wax Museum (Not sure how to spell).Time Square! Oh, and also the Huggggggggggeeeeeee Christmas Tree. It is absolutely beautiful!!!!! Cool places to eat is The Star Dust Diner, Planet Hollywood and ESPN!!!!!

nsee time square,seaport, and take a 2.5 hour sightseeing boat around the island.I liked the statue of liberty . nice big museums if you are into natural history or art
