I'm seeing The Fox and the Hound 2 commercials, before that it was Cinderella 2 (and Cinderella 3 is in the works, if I'm not mistaken), The Lion King 2, Lady and the Tramp 2, The Jungle Book 2, Pocahontas 2, Mulan 2, The Little Mermaid 2, Bambi 2, Beauty and the Beast Christmas special...can they ever leave well enough alone, or is the Disney corporation so greedy for profits that they'll eviscerate childhood memories by revorking and revamping any story, so long as they can sell enough tickets, merchandise and DVDs to appease stockholders? Is there no end to Disney corporation's greed?

Disney Corp is a business and just like any other business needs to turn a profit in order to be attractive to stockholders. If you want to call that greed, fine, then every corporation in the world is greedy.

I am upset from a quality standpoint at the recent glut of sequels. Disney needs to keep its brand fresh and in the public eye. Most folks will buy one DVD of a favorite movie. But if a sequel is released direct-to-video, kids may beg their parents for it, and the Disney brand identity is refreshed.

I'm also a little upset due to failing park maintenance. Disneyland, due to corporate cutbacks, was crumbling before they undertook a park-wide refurbishment schedule before the 50th anniversary and the park looked incredible. They had a stellar 18 months of attendance (which appears to be continuing).

Disney World, on the other hand, appears to have a "we'll fix it if someone notices" policy. There are many Disney boards on the web, and on each one all I hear about are complaints about how DW is falling apart. But until Disney feels a monetary impact, it is doubtful much will change. So there is an example of corporate budgetary concerns undercutting public sentiment.

What did you expect Disney to do? Disney is a corporation, as you said. What is the purpose of a corporation? They make money. In a capitalistic society, you make money by creating products or services that people will pay to receive. You think that they are being *more* greedy than any other corporation? Perhaps you should look into the way Frito-Lay attempts to modify the eating habits of Asian and European countries so that they will eat more junk food like Americans. Are you more asking if they should do it or if it's ethical? They own the rights to these movies. Perhaps you should be asking why people want to buy these sorts of derivative forms of entertainment.

I think they are just like any other Corporation and if there is a market out there willing to buy the merchandise, they will keep producing it. I don't see anything wrong or greedy with giving the public what they want. Our childhood memories are still there, no one says you have to buy the sequels or remakes if you don't want to!

I don't know, y'know. Like, in one respect I totally agree, I mean, they should leave the classics alone, and make NEW movies, but, was the Fox and the Hound not like really old, and NOW they just decide they want to make a new one? It's really dumb. But, I guess I can almost get where they're coming from, but, still, it is almost like they are very greedy.

It's not just Disney. Every movie production company does this. If a first movie does even a little well in the box office, they automatically think they need to make a second one and a third one, etc.

On one hand it's greed, but on the other, its more of a lack of ideas. They haven't been making many new TV shows, and the movies? ....Well, let's just say if they DID come up with an idea, it wouldn't be worth watching anyway.

"Of the making of many books (and movie sequels), there is no end"

Yes, Virginia, I'm sorry to have to say it, but DISNEY IS IN BUSINESS TO MAKE MONEY AND THEY DON'T CARE HOW THEY DO IT!
