Okay, so My boyfirends car is broken, and the shop quoted us over 800 dollars to get the car fixed (new brakes and roters). He has a 2001 Deawoo Leganza, he sunk a load of money in it last year for a new alternator. So I was thinking that maybe we should trade in his car (it has over 80 thousand miles on it) and get him a newer one (he said that he'd like a truck for work). I am curious as to what others would think and or do in this situation. Thanks.

80k is not a lot of mileage. it still is cheaper to fix your present car than to buy a newer car. that car newer car could break down too. besides. buying a newer car. you will have to pay sales tax on that newer car, insurance will be higher. and the payment will be higher too most probably. recommend keeping the car. it is only a 5-6 years old car. you should get another 4-5 more years with it. at 12,000 miles a year you Will ad 72,000 miles for a total of 152,000 miles not too high mileage. maintenance on a car is more expensive than the car it self. good luck what ever you do.

trade it for the truck as the repairs would be more than the blue book value of the car

I'd move to a small town and use a bike.
