If the butter knife trick doesn't work, try heating the lid under some hot tap water for 30 seconds or so. Don't use boiling water! Glass can explode if it gets too hot.
You can buy jar openers made of rubber that help you get a better grip on jar lids.

First..are these store bought pickles or home canned pickles. If store bought and the lid absolutely won't move..try piercing the top of the lid with a knife just enough to release the vaccum inside the jar. Sometimes i get some that have such a hard vaccum the lid won't move. By putting a hole in the lid...it releases the vaccum and the lid opens right up.
If it's home canned chances are that the salt and vinegar used to make the brine have corroded the out ring lid and it no longer can twist off...so just break the ring by using a knife or kitchen scissors and make a cut that will allow you to take the ring off.

Put a rubber glove on the hand that will do the twisting of the cap. Grasp the lid and twist. It will come off. There are discs of rubber made specifically for this application, but my method works just as well.
This will work better than hitting it with a knife, or soaking in hot water, etc. I hope they are dill pickles; otherwise there is no point.

First, get a dry dishcloth, or a non-slippery cloth. Then heat the cap of the jar by running hot water on it for 10 sec., no longer. Then , using the cloth, try opening it.
The key is that the metal cap will expand faster than the glass when exposed to heat. Too long on the hot water, and the glass begins to expand , too, and you again have the sealed pickles.
Good luck.

Run the jar under hot water. The water may remove any build-up causing the lid to stick, and it will also cause the lid to expand (faster than the glass jar will), making it easier to open.

You know Ice Pack, I asked that question plenty of times to myself. I know that the pickle jar top is always tight, but I make it easy for me to open. I have so much strenght in my arms, cause I work out. It's not very much a problem to me.

if it is sealed with thread cap and still not opening then tap the corck hard all round and then tighten it frist and unscrew for there could be an overrun of thread while corcking if it is just an air lock then run water all round the cap for few min and then loosen the corck after removing free water from/around the corck for water will reduce the pickels life.

take a butter knife and tap the edge of the lid with the edge of the knife, rather sharply. It will help break the seal and you can open it.

hold it over the sink upside down with a finger on the lid, with one good jolt with the palm of your other hand, strike the bottom firmly and it should break the seal.
