Dengue fever for Aedes
Malaria for Anopheles
not sure about culex.....
Aside form Haysoos 2 fantasitc answer i have heard also that the way which the critters hold their hind legs while resting can also be used as a way to tell them apart, I cant remeber for the life of me, but I imagine I can find something on it.
Many of the different genera also differ in the way in which they lay their eggs, Aedes lays rafts whereas culex has sinking eggs, if I recall correctly

here are some images of the leg postures of each of those three:

Aedes, hind legs held curled upward:

Anopheles: Hind legs held outstretched, large maxillary palps

Culex: hind legs curled up over the back:

these are all just simple habitus identification techniques, I have only ever identified larval mosquitoes with taxonomic keys, and that is all based on shape, number and position of tiny setae that are found on the posterior respiratory siphon, I wont even get into that!!!

The most noticeable differences between the genera come in the abdomen and the palps.

Anopheles mosquitoes are relatively easy to identify, possessing palps nearly as long as the proboscis itself.

Aedes/Ochlerotatus (they recently split the genus into several others) have a very pointy end to the abdomen, with a pair of cerci extended from the tip.

Culex and Culiseta mosquitoes have a more rounded or blunt abdomen, with the cerci retracted. Culex mosquitoes tend to have a more scalloped shape to the adomenal tergites. It's hard to describe, but distinctive when you see it.

Note: There are several other mosquito genera in North America (Stegomyia, Coquilletidia, Toxorhyncites, Wyomeia, Psorophora etc.), but these are the biggies.
