I have a linksys wireless G router with speedboaster connected to a cable modem. I also have a linksys g notebook card for my laptop at the other end of the house. Can I improve my speed so it runs the same as when connected with wires?

Well I answer you question From A hardware View:
-First you have to make sure that your internet connection(not wireless) is fast enogh like DSL or Cable. you can test this bus connceting a computer directly to the modem.
-Second if you Internet connection speed is good enough find the router or gateway try to get the laptop closer to it see if it gets better if it doesn't you have to buy a better router(N) or increase the signal strength by using an external antenna.
If It didnt get better then it might be you laptop you can e-mail me i help you more with that.

Working for an isp as well as cable provider I can tell you the first thing to do is to contact Verizon and see what speed you currently have, you may need to upgrade the speed to something higher. Second, on the range issue, you can go to Best Buy and get a router that will carry a larger range like an N+ router. I have an N router and it does just fine but with everything you have listed you may want the N+. Third, the modem may be outdated with the firmware so alot of times you can swap them for a new one from your ISP, like I said though call and make sure. Fourth, you can put the modem near the desktop and run the ethernet cable to the back of the desktop and still run the wireless router to your wireless devices, thats the way I have mine but I have a wireless laptop and run the ethernet cord to the back of my Blu-Ray Player so I can do Netflix. Hope at least some of this helps you out...

It depends on how big your house is and if you can move your router to another position of the house it might help. if not then just try to raise your router as much as possible and make it point to the direction that you use your connection the most...
that might help, if you have neighbors then just create a key to make it private...

If you have XP you can get back the 20% of bandwidth(speed) that Microsoft have reserved for "their use".
Go to start->run->type: gpedit.msc->double click computer configuration->double click administrative templates->network->QoS Packet Scheduler->double click reservable bandwidth-> click enable and then drop the 20 to 00->click ok at bottom. You can use this trick on any windows xp machine and get 20% more speed than your already getting (really it should be yours to start with). Dont think just because it says its not enabled that it is not.
