It is possible that the fuel pump is running, but not supplying the correct pressure. your engine requires about 54psi to run, and it is very sensitive, if you only have 40 psi it wont start. There is a pressure tap on the fuel rail to connect a tester if you have access to one. The other way is to remove the air inlet and have someone spray starting fluid into the intake while you crank it. It may start and stay running, but just doesnt have the pressure for initial start. This is VERY common.

You will have to determine if you have power and ground to the fuel pump. Unfortunately you will have to pull the tank off to check the connection. The positive wire from the relay is a grey wire. The ground wire is a solid black wire. You can connect a test light between the two terminals and turn on the key. The light should come on for about two seconds and then go off. Or if you are cranking the engine, the test light should be on while you are cranking. No light, then you have a power or ground problem. Light on, then you probably have a dud fuel pump.

How are you checking if the fuel pump works? Are you checking for actual fuel pressure with a tester at the pump and at the rail? If you are listening for a humming noise when you turn your key on, doesn't mean it is working. Electric pumps have plastic gearing internally that can come loose or break to pieces. The shaft will spin but no pressure created. This Vortec engine needs at least 55 psi to open the injectors.

i own a repair shop, and if its cold where your at,,its possible there is condensation in the tank, and it got in the fuel filter and froze it up,,i have seen this a lot lately, and its causing some major problems for some of my customers also,,its where you buy your fuel at,,or how much you keep in it,,the less you keep the more condensation your going to get from it,,try taking the fuel filter off and see if its frozen,,or clogged up,,other than that you said the pump was working,,so it has to get up there,,also try removing the gas cap,and then putting it back on again,,if all this fails put a new filter on it,,i would do that anyway,,if all this fails get back with me ,and i,ll help you figure it out,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s,,have a good x-mas.

i would check for fuel pressure at the test port on injector rail then check fuel return line because they have a tendency to become plugged from sedament either way this will tell you if your pump is truely working if no pressure at test port then definatly check your oil pressure sensor as a defective or low oil pressure at the sensor can cause the pump to not function or function improperly. when this all started did your ecm fuse blow in your fuse and relay center under the hood, its on driverside fender well under hood,i live up here in alaska and these are very common problems up here, the salt and dirt from the winters is very hard on fuel systems and there components up here.

I know this sounds odd, but if your fuel lines run under the frame make sure they are not bent. Might need to replace if your filter was clogged, residue could of blocked the lines before the filter.
