Something that shows some thought would be ideal. Try to look for ideas around the house. An easy one is a comic strip series you know your Mom or Dad reads in the newspaper (or collects books of); those usually cost $15-20 for a collection.
Alternatively, get them a CD; there are plenty of CDs they'd like - why not write down a few names from their collection and go to the store and ask for a recommendation? The Beatles "Love" CD is big right now with a certain age group...
You could always get them some kind of art - those little statuettes that show a parent and child are very sentimental and actually pretty cheap - you can find them in gift or card stores in malls and they usually cost $15-30 each.
You could also give your parents something much cheaper - a heartfelt few words in a card, plus some handmade coupons for them, saying things like:
"This coupon entitles the bearer to a homecooked meal made by YOUR SON!"
"This coupon is good for one night of free babysitting of Sam and Mary by yours truly."
And so on. Of course, you have to be prepared to actually follow through!
Have a Merry Christmas!

If you have a sibling, contribute $20 for a suction coffee brewer. There are two chambers, you pour the water in the lower one, and coffee grounds on the top. Put it on the heat and the pressure from the boiling water pushes it into the upper chamber. Remove from heat and the cooling air sucks the water back down. Even though i haven't tried it yet, everywhere that i go people are saying that it makes the best cup of coffee

It depends on how old your parents are. I asked my parents what they wanted, I'm also on a very tight budget this holiday, I'm buying my mom a hair straightner and my dad some jeans. They're 36 and 38 years old. Buy them clothes. Or get them gift cards to a store they shop at a lot.
Happy Holiday's!

Something from the heart. It's always the thought that counts-for example a movie gift card for the two of them to have a night out. It's about $10-they can catch a matinee or use it for the popcorn stand.
Another idea is find a cherished family photo, get it duplicated/color corrected and frame it.That cost between 8-12 dollars.

not expensive gifts.... go with sentiment instead.... make them something, get a bunch of small items to remind them of great memories u have with them and put them into a memory box....you can add to it each year. such as a miniature fishing pole if u like fishing with dad of cookies cutter if you like to bake with mom...etc. tell them that the things in this box represent some of the wonderful memories you have had with them growing up ... you can look at the item and explain them to them....craft stores and dollar stores are great places to get items... you can even collect rocks from a favorite park u hike at think of anything....that will be a fond memory.... They will love it trust me!
Other great ideas: movie tickets for a night out together: two tickets should be between 30 to 15 dollars depending on where you live.
Giving them coupons u make for things like... I'll cook dinner for you two....I'll do laundry....wash car.....watch siblings...etc...make age appropriate for you....Sorry don't know how old you are.
look on eBay maybe for a toy that they liked as a child or a book they talked about that they used to have and remember fondly...
Remember sentimental gifts are always the best.

The best present for your mom might be for you to find a picture of you two together, frame it. Write a letter to her explaining why she is such a special mom.
To your dad give him your time. A coupon book with offers to do for him what he hates to do. Washing the car, mowing the lawn. Or just take him to see a guy movie, one your mom would never go see with him.

- Make them coupons for things you will do for your parents.
- Make them something.
- Candy
- Write them a poem and paint it with watercolors and buy an inexpensive frame - this will mean a lot to them!
