FARGO: For the dark subject matter set in a naive rural American setting coupled with the great artistic cinematography in a snowy setting and great acting

THE EDGE: For the great development of the characters and Anthony Hopkins great performance along with the beautiful landscape footage and edge of the seat suspense

BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY: Because Meryl Streep is brilliant and this film truly shows her abilities since all of it is basically about the two characters

SCARFACE, DONNIE BRASCO or SCENT OF A WOMAN: Al Pacino is awesome

THE PIANO: The cinematography in it is so artistic it is breathtaking

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN: Because even the elderly I have watched it with have cried after viewing its tremedously realistic and accurate footage

THE EXCORCIST and THE SHINING: Because sometimes I like to be spooked :)

UNFAITHFUL: Whatever, a chick film but I like Diane Lane and the settings of the film were interesting, along with the idea that one decision can alter our lives

...a whole lot more than this and probably left out the best ones but theres my answers :)

The Right Stuff. I watched it three times in one day at a theater because it was the last day it would be shown and I didn't know when I would see it again. Although it was only the 1980s, VCRs were not in every home as they are now (and the ones that were happen to be Betas) so I wanted to see the movie as many times as I could. I like The Right Stuff because it is an accurate accounting of the personality of the book and therefore a heady look at the mercury space program and I love astronomy and space. The significance about seeing "The Right Stuff" 3 times in one day is that was all it was shown since it is over 3 hours long

I also saw "Star Wars" 33 times the first month it was out.

There are films who are simply entertaining enough to never be boring...no matter how many times you watch them.

That said...everyone is different...and while someone might love a movie enough to watch it over and over again, someone else might hate that movie.

I would say that I re-watch some of my favourite twice a year if I have them in my library.

But to answer your question...
I would think that the movies which have been watched the most by the general population would be those made between 1940 and 1970...for the simple fact that they have been out there the longuest and that people who are 60 years old today...are still watching them.

I've watched The Lion King over and over again. When it first came out on video, I used to watch it every single day. Now I watch it at least once every six months. When I was younger, I loved the fact that even though the father died, it still had a happy ending on Simba's part. Now I like it, because its all about destiny. It was Simba's destiny to become the king, and he did so! It's so beautiful. I think I'll watch it again tonight lol.

I can watch May, American Beauty, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Donnie Darko, and The Little Mermaid.
May because it is my favorite movie of all times and it is just an awesome movie.
American Beauty because I love Kevin Spacey. He did such a great job in this movie and because it's just a great movie.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind because I love how everything was put together and the music they choose was great for the movie.
Donnie Darko because I love this movie! It's so great.
And The Little Mermaid because that was my favorite movie when I was growing up.

I've watched
Olive the Other Reindeer
so many times that I can say all the lines with the whole movie....
I love the way it makes me feel-all warm and Christmassy.
Same with my british literature favorite
Pride and Prejudice,
a bit different genre, but also very quotable and I have to drink tea the whole time I watch it.

I've watched the Shawshank Redemption about a million times. That movie is one of my all time fav's. Also, sadly, I've watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory as many times, if not more. One of the first movies I saw as a kid and to this day, I wish I had that lickable wallpaper!

Gone With the Wind because of the actors and actresses. The Wizard of Oz because it was a family tradition to watch it every year.
