First of all, did you just plop the betta into the tank as soon as you got home from where you bought it? Cause the fish may be in a state of shock if it wasn't properly acclimated to the tank. The stress can cause the fish to get sick or even die. So acclimating the betta is extrememly important. You should float the bag in the betta's new tank and slowly add 10% of your tank water to his bag (or cup) every half hour until his water is completely the same as your tank's water. Then and only then can you release him into the water safely, and not have him be shocked by a different PH level or temperature ect. There's a great site, www.BettaTalk.com with a lot of very good info, so I suggest you read up on how to care for your betta buddy to ensure he has a long happy life :) Good luck with him!

Mine like to hide, i had one of those plants that grew in the water. They are pretty tough fish, I have however killed two. One was a result of asking my brother to feed it while I was on vacation(he didn't) The other was because I put the fish in the water when I got it instead of placing the bag it came in in the water so the temp could adjust. Other than that I think they can live through a lot of things

probably not used to the water and being alone and stuff.. if I were you, change the water more often, and take out the log until it gets out of the shy mode

i dont think you need to worrie, most fish do this because of the new water temp. he should be up and around in the morning, check when you feed them to see if he comes to eat ok, good luck and GOD BLESS.

Do you have other fish in there? Because Betas can't stand that...they need their own territory! They are territorial
