the problem with my son is that he gets constipated due to the formula that im giving him.. he hardly has a bowel movement but when he does its ALOT of poop.. I dont know if this is normal or if anyone else goes through this with their child but i was just wondering if its normal for that to happen when a baby is switched to formula?

A bowel movement once a day is perfectly normal and is not constipaton in a formula fed baby. Ten days no poop for a breast fed baby is constipation and four days no poop for a formula fed babyis consitpation. My baby went once every two days since she was born and that was on breast and bottle and she has gained adequate weight is in the fiftieth percentile and its more then okay to only go once a day..I wouldnt recommend adding stuff to your babies diet to make him go poop because he is pooing fine.

btw in response to another post..my baby poops once every two days does not have an upset stomatch and is sleeping through the night 7-9 hours without problems since she was 2.35 months old.. So it does not affect the sleeping/fussiness of some babies.

Well my baby poops once a day and my nurse says that is normal for a formula fed baby. Just put a little Dark Karo syrup in his bottles or mix in some juice with his bottles that helps my baby girl..Good Luck

Its not normal that a bably poops once a day, that bothers their stomach and makes them unable to sleep good. I went through this 2 days ago with my neice and I told her mother that she needed to get some apple prune juice at the store and give her about a ounce, she was scared that it would hurt the baby so I gave it to her and by that night she was back to normal and sleeping really good. My doctor told me that on my first child and it worked on her. Don't give her the whole container of juice just about a ounce.

It's okay for babies to go up to 3 days without pooping. If he's not going by then you could always try 1oz of prune or apple juice diluted with 1oz of water. That should get things moving. If not- see his doctor. Good luck!

Is it iron fortified formula? That can cause consipation. If he seems uncomfortable talk with his Dr about switching to a non-iron formula. If he's ok with it, then don't worry about it.

when my daughter was under about 6 months old she usually had one giant crap per day, and the doc said that was totally normal.

once they get older.. it increases.. shes up to 2-3/day (11monthsold)
