I am 19 yr old drummer and I want to go to music school. My current drum teacher is a great drummer and a nice guy and he knows me well. But, he often loses complete confidence in me and doesn't think I can play anything, so I can never move on. Its not because I don't practice, he has just known me since I was a beginner and I can't seem to break out of that mold. He acts like this sometimes, and other times he is great, but since I do want to go to music school, I don't know if it is worth it to stay with him, or should I find someone that sees my time as more worthwhile? He's a great drummer and he has known me for a long time, so he knows how I learn, but maybe that is the problem? i don't know what to do...

Your teacher should be growing with you as you progress. Pushing you and challenging you. It doesn't seem like he is if he is not letting you move on. I would recommend getting a new instructor who has confidence in you. After all, it's your dream to go to a music school, so you need someone who will prepare you for that. It doesn't sound like your current instructor is doing that. But don't forget...you also have to push and challenge yourself or else you can't improve and be better and everything you want to be.

Good luck! =)

Well.... if he feels that you can't get any better...
I suggest getting a new instructor.
