Ashamed because you haven't done anything to stop the government you know is wrong? Ashamed to be associated with this rotten, evil empire?

(p.s., before you tell me that if I don't like it, I should get out, I'll tell you I'm going to, in a few months...)

I'm not ashamed to be an American, I love being an American. I am, however, disappointed with the current administration. I don't think we should need be ashamed to be Americans to distance ourselves from our President's views, or those a majority of people may share or have shared.

I have done something, I have voted. Beyond that, we have to accept the voice of the people until the next election.

People who say "if you don't like it, leave it" don't understand what this country is all about.

Listen, I understand that you will be getting out in a few months, so why dont you move to Dafur or Ethiopia or Somalia or Iraq or Angola or N. Korea or anywhere else that is not European. Somewhere where you dont have traffic lights leave alone a tamarcked road, a place sooo full of mosquitoes and you dont even have a net, a place where your kids cant go to school, I mean pls find something good about your country!!! God bless you. There are other worse gov. and you dont have a civil war bcoz of the gov. Count your blessings, Hon.

If you are so ashamed, move to one of the 3rd world countries that really have problems. If you want to change things, make sure you vote in the elections.

I think it is the responsibility of a people to control their government. I don't think you're wrong to feel shame for the behavior of our leaders. I do. I'm not ashamed to be American, at all, but I am ashamed of our leaders.

Much like a parent feels disappointment in a child who does wrong without losing their love for that child, we can feel shame in our leaders without being Anti-American.

I was a proud American before Pres, Bush came along and will be a proud American until the day I die. You don't always have to agree with the leaders to be proud of this country.

i'm not ashamed of being American, i love being American, but i don't agree with the way our government is going right now.
i have many cousins and aunts and uncles and other relatives who live in OTHER countries and when i visit them (in their country) they tell me how bad our government here in the USA is.

What I'm ashamed of is how nasty people can be to anyone who they disagree with . Some of the answers here are very good examples .

oh yes ~ I am ashamed ~ I would love to do something about it or leave ~ but neither is possible at the moment.

I understand that you don't mean that you're ashamed to be an American, just to be a part of something that has done wrong (our leaders).
