What I found out is that it was the name of a Brythonic woman Onnen Greg back in the 5th - 7th century. The meaning is ash trees.
It is also related to the welsh name of Trefonnen which means tref (town) onnen (ashes).
There is no relation to Onan at all as I knew their never was.
Besides how can she spill her seed all over the ground?
anyways if you guys want to go and see on your own the site is:

Onnen doesn't sound like a cute boy's name or a handsome man's name. It also reminds me too much of the word omen, as in bad omen.
I would suggest Owen, instead. It sounds more like a name than a word.

Yay! I congratulate your research. Unusual name too :)
I couldn't find Onnen but I found this greek name:

OENONE
Gender: Feminine
Usage: Greek Mythology (Latinized)
Latinized form of the Greek Οινωνε (Oinone), derived from οινος (oinos) meaning "wine". In Greek mythology Oenone was a mountain nymph who was married to Paris before he went after Helen.

Thank you so much for doing the research! So many people blindly give their children trendy and overused names with no meanings. Good choice, and your baby will be happy with it also!
