have you noticed how women are always complaining it's cold, even in the same room as a guy, with more clothes on? is there a biological reason women are more cold? is it because men have more muscle mass and that raises your body temperature? on the other hand, don't women have more fat so they should be warmer? or is this just skinny girls that are always cold?

p.s. when i asked this, it brought up 5 people who asked the same exact question, but not in the biology section

I am an MD. This is an interesting question, for which there are many possible answers, all of which may be contributing. First of all, it is a fact that women have a slower metabolism, so they simply produce less heat. Secondly, women's circulation is slower and less effective, which tends to underperfuse the outer regions of the body. Women have fewer red blood cells in their blood even under normal conditions, and then women are more likely to become abnormally anemic due to Iron deficiency that can result from monthly blood losses. (This is made even worse if your female decides to become a vegetarian). Another possible reason is that women are generally less athletic than men, so more of their muscle fibers become "white" as opposed to "red", which burn fewer calories. And perhaps lastly, I personally believe that the temperature difference makes lying nude next to someone of the opposite sex much more enjoyable for both parties, since the women enjoys snuggling up against the furnace that's next to her and the guy finds the woman's body refreshingly cool. As the french say, "Viva la difference" or, "Long live the difference"!

I don't know, I have fuzzy socks and live in the desert! This morning I cuddled up to my husband for warmth, and he said I felt so cold he could feel it through his clothes! We had the heat on, and then I put on mittens and a hat. And I was still a little cold. On the plus side, sometimes I use this as an excuse to get frisky. And I'm not "skinny." I'm not fat either, more of an hourglass.

We're not. Some of us run a little hot, actually. It's always the skinny chicks who are cold, but not this chick, I'm chunky and warm and toasty! Especially now, because I bought a new robe after work today, and I'm wearing it now with the fireplace going and watching Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer -- warmth in all ways.

Some factors that I thought of :
Less body fat reduces insulation, this is true.
There is a drop in body temp. just prior to ovulation.
If a woman smokes, the body temp. drops while smoking.

I dunno. I don't find it a sex-related thing. Half the time, I'm more cold to the touch than my boyfriend, half the time, he's more cold.

Always, though, I'm more comfortable in colder temperatures than he is - I prefer my house to be around 55 degrees, he prefers more around 65. I just can't sleep when it's that hot... >.<

men have a higher metabolism so they are naturally warmer than a woman......our slower metabolisms mean we feel cold sooner than you cause we produce less heat
