I'll never forget.
No inside plumbing, one wood stove to heat a 9 room house, windows & doors that were so leaky that when the wind blew, it snowed "inside" the house. And the embarrasment of having to wear an older siblings worn out hand-me-downs to school.
It's what has driven me to fight for what I want, and never give up.

We never went without the essentials like food, shelter and clothing and for that I am grateful. We were not spoilt rotten like a lot of kids today seem to be. We had a lot of hand me downs, and we had to share all our stuff. If we got bored we had to use our own imaginaition....we did not have Xbox, PS2, gameboys etc........I remember playing outside was fun. There was none of this excessive text messaging. If we wanted to speak to our friends we went to their house or seen them at school the next day. We got presents at Christmas and birthdays. We ate dinner together as a family. None of this take out every other night of the week. I was, and still am lucky to have such a great family.

I remember growing up in Brooklyn and it was hard...I thank God that my Mom helped me out because I would be nothing. I remember getting caught up in the drama and violence. My Dad left because he thought his job was more important so my Mom had to raise me and my sister alone. My Mom had some anger issues beacuse of her child hood. She was molested and stuff. But she did the best she could!A child's up bringing can really affect them. I mean I have all types of issues now but hey life goes on. Even though we weren't wealthy we loved each other and that was better then any amount of money.

My hard times growing up were because my mother was very abusive to me. I was stuck having to take care of myself and my younger brother because my mother was too busy worrying about going out, partying and getting high. If we didn't have any money for anything it's because my mother spent it all on her addictions. I remember one too many times of having nothing but mac & cheese or a can of Spaghettios to eat for dinner. For school lunches I had to pack whatever was left in the cupboard, which was usually only a peanut butter sandwich and when the school called my mother because my brother complained that he was hungry, I'M the one that got my @ss beat for it!

yea..kids now days..whats up with them? They get bored watching bugs bunny...remember spending a lot of time playing outside..now they are on the computer and playing video games...I remember walking around in a small town in Georgia..in the hot hot summer..no shoes on..walking railroad tracks..skipping rocks...searching for glass coke bottles so we could cash them in for money so we could buy a coke and a thing of hubba bubba. Or finding a pond or place to swim..and jumping in and swimming for hours. Kids now days..they have all these things..expensive things..their missing out on the real fun! Remember Halloween when it was fun...we'd trick or treat until midnight...yea..I could see doing it again..

I guess I was very fortunate when I was growing up.
I grew up on a Cattle Ranch and my Dad made sure all of us kids did our share of work. We loved it.
We weren't well off by any means, but we never went hungry.

We were poor growing up and we didn't get much, but I was always grateful for what I did get. Honestly, I didn't know any differently.
