Just something to be aware of - blood quantum. It means you have to be a certain percent to qualify as an official tribe member - for a couple of tribes it's as low as 1/32, I think, but usually it's 1/4.
But, learning about your heritage is a really great thing - sometimes community members put on dance classes; might be fun to learn. Good luck!

You need to find what tribe you actually are...it is the only right and respectable way to find out about your heritage. Sorry, but it's not possible to just up and become part of a tribe (and stay away from the fake ones unless you want to be seen as fake).

I'm sure there are lots of resources online, but you might also check with your community library or Historical Society.

Now, here's a bit of info you were not looking for...

When it comes time for you to start making applications to colleges, if you need financial aid, you qualify for federal money because of your Native American Indian ancestry. My niece learned about it when she was researching loans and grants.

Research on line for the info you are looking for.Write the tribe council. If you find a snail mail address then write them too.
Look for Native American Festvals and pow-wow's to attend.
I too am Native American and proud of it.

Go for it. I am sure that you will find it fascinating. Begin by finding other members of the tribe, and ask them how to proceed. I am not familiar with "cheekee" -- do you mean Cherokee?

good for you, I'm alittle cherokee myself. Start by looking up family history and reading any info you can find about the tribes your family belong to. Good luck!

You could research this online, or maybe go to the library. That is awesome that you are native american, it is a rich culture.
