I want to go on birthcontrol because I'm too afaird of having another child. I'm in college now and my son is 3 years old. I'm 19 and it is very hard to do. I love kids and all but too afaird of having more. I want to know which one is best and is it a good idea to go on. My mother said there are side effects that can be fatal and that I should wait until I am married to have sex again, but even though me and my boyfriend are sexually active and wear a condom everytime, I'm still afaird and think I should go on birthcontrol. What should I do?????

I think your your mother maybe trying to scare you in to not having sex right now. Its really a personal choice. Methods like the depo shot have hormones that stop you from having the endometrium lining in your womb so you dont have periods (sometimes spot), it's good if you cant remember taking the pill, you get it every 3 months. some women gain weight on it. There is the nuvaring, (change it once a month) birth control pill, (take one tablet a day)and the patch. All use hormones and have side effects that usually go away. I've never heard life threating-only if you are over 35 and smoke, when taking the pill, can cause blood clots.

You really don't need to worry about BC being fatal. When you go to your doc, just be honest about your health history and you should be fine. For example, the doc will want to make sure you don't smoke while on the pill, as that can cause health problems.
I would recommend BC pills, but whichever you choose is fine. Some women think the shot and nuvaring are more convenient because you don't have to remember to take them everyday, but I have heard of many women becoming pregnant on those.
Mircette (aka Kariva) has been a good bet for many women I know, especially when other brands of pills caused uncomfortable side effects, like migraines. The only 100% way to prevent pregnany is abstinence, of course, but BC pills can be very effective when used properly also.

The pills are the best to go on. I was on Monfeme and had a few unwanted side effects like fluid retention, weight gain and bad mood swings.I just recently changed to Yasmin as I've heard many good things about it and the hormone they use is meant to be more natural and not as synthetic as other pills, but i cant tell you how that's going as i'm about to start that tonight. I did have the implant "Implanon" and it messed me up big time like i'd bleed 2 weeks in a row then 1 week rest then bleed again. It was a nightmare..Also depo provera injection, i heard theyre not really good as my mother in-law used to be on it when she was young and it gave her breast lumps that had to be removed. but hun, our bodies are all different . the best thing i suggets is speak to your doctor about your concerns, im sure they'll give you the best advice and tell you which contraceptive is right for you

BC CAN be fatal! If you read all the side affects, BC can be pretty serious. But please do think about using BC. If you don't smoke and are fairly healthy you should have NOTHING to worry about!

I was on the depo shot. Good thing about this is one shot every three months, some people don't even get a period. Bad thing, every five years you get a bone density check, you gain weight. AND your mood swings are horrid. (Please look up reviews about this, I did and was scared enough to get my butt OFF of depo!)

I am currently on Kariva. A low dose BCP that I haven't gained weight on. I sometimes get my period (wish it was regular). Mood swings are ok and tolerable (unlike every three months two weeks prior to me needing another shot I would be a WITCH).

There is always getting your tubes tied, or getting HIM snipped. It shouldn't be entirely on us women yaknow! :)

I have a good site below for you to look at more...

I'm on the pill called Levlen. It gets mailed to me for $39 for 3 months. My doctor calls in the order for a year to the company, then every 3 months I call in when I get close to the end of the 3rd month. Here's the website where I enrolled in their program. http://www.smartwomanrx.com/home.html
It's great because it's only $13 a month and they charge the credit card number you give them. I've been on it for almost 4 years now and love this pill. The best day of the week to start the pill on for me is Friday because when it comes time for my period to come I get it from Mon-Thurs. and always am period free on the weekends.
