Hey, ever go to a football game, baseball, soccer or other game.
Hey ever get stuck in traffic, and had guys yell swear words, and give you the finger?
Who's quiet then? Ever go to a bar, and listened to the drunk folks, how many men are quiet then?

It's called selective listening what your dad is doing, and it keeps him out of fights. It also keeps him out of communication with his children. How's that working for you?

GOD bless.

Yes, in general. According to "The Female Brain", a recently published book, women use an average of 20,000 words per day, while men use only 7,000 words per day on average.

So the short answer, if this is correct, is that the average woman on the average day will speak more than twice as many words as the average man on the average day. However, this is an average, and so some men may talk more than some women, and even a quiet man may talk more than a talkative woman if he's having a particularly communicative day.

Of course, I'm a woman, so my short answer was still pretty long. This assessment seems to be compatible with what I've experienced. :)

As people have said, some are quieter, and some are louder/talk more. It depends on the person's personality, their mood, and other stuff. It's just that some men/guys/boys, etc. would prefer to not say a word if they don't have anything intelligent (or nice) to say, and so they'll keep their mouth shut, whereas the woman could just ramble on.

Of course, the reverse could be true, you could have a loud man and a quiet woman. Or, it could've been that your father was raised with the "Don't speak unless spoken too" attitude pushed onto him and so he's become quieter as he's aged, falling back onto the (unethical) habit that was pushed on him as a child.

In nearly every relationship including marriage, usually the wife or the husband dominates the other. Maybe your mother dominates him. Maybe your Dad figures what ever he says will be wrong anyway, according to your Mom. Men are not always considerable quieter than women. Depends, woman may be louder in your family, the women in someone else's family. If it worries you, make a prime time with your Dad, you two go out and talk. If he want talk, tell him to talk to you, that you would love to hear what he has to say. Good Luck!! hope it works for you.

I think it's you.

No...I think that word "quieter" is misleading. Yes, on average, women do talk more. It's because we have a wider array of interests! But at the same time, women are not quite a LOUD talking, as men are.

Maybe it has to do with where you live. Most things seem to...But I know equal numbers of guys and girls who are loud and talkative, and not too many who are quiet. (And isn't it odd how I know more GIRLS who are quiet, than boys?)

It's not just you. Women are better communicators in general. Years ago a study came out that established that it was physically more difficult for a man to speak than a woman. It was based on muscle structure and the larynx. I'm not sure whether it stood the scrutiny of science or not. But, it's an interesting theory.

Generally speaking, most men do talk less than women, and it’s been proven via studies time and again. Men use as few words as possible to get their point across, while women tend to elaborate more. Also, men are much less likely to discuss their ‘feelings’, while women do it often.

I think guys can be just as loud if not even louder. The loudest person I know is a boy. I think that women however tend to socialize more because they like to talk their problems through.

Depends on the person. I do think women are better at verbalizing than men.
