well that's what stun guns are for, they have a high range. you can shoot the things at someone and they stick into their leg. and then shock the **** out of them.
i had a dream last night that i stole my school officer's gun out of her holster and shot like, 10 people, just to prove a point that it's not fair for a cop to carry one in school.
it's held onto her belt by 1 snap-button. easy to get.

Ok, to begin, local ordinances prohibiting the carriage of a gun to school also articulate a specific clause exempting police. The idea of a stun gun seems sound on the surface but in fact it's not. The stun gun has limited range and is unreliable. If faced with a deadly weapon such as a knife, club, rock, etc. then an officer will only deploy the stun gun when there is another officer present providing cover with a firearm due to the unreliability of the stun gun.
The range of the stun gun is only a few feet (oh, you don't aim for a leg either). A threat at the other end of a school hall or across the quad is way out of range for a stun gun. Besides, zap someone who is holding a gun and see what happens. It won't be pretty.
The snap looks simple but unless you really know what you're doing it's not. Trying to take that officer's gun will get someone seriously hurt or killed. Oh, it is legal to shoot someone that is trying to get your gun. You can also resort to any deadly force action that will protect you as an officer so that means all bets are off.
You are thinking and asking sound questions although the dream reference can get you in some hot water. Trust in this, there are a lot of factors in the decision to post an armed officer that require not only experience but training and a very specific education. Simply attending college won't do, these decisions are made by personnel with a specific experience, training and education. Sometimes you have to realize that they are better suited to making these calls.

Its legal for cops to carry guns because the federal law that prohibits guns on school zones, 18 U.S.C.A. § 921, has an exception for law enforcement.

I have a hunch they are taught how to protect the gun from being stolen....... just a hunch.... so I betcha can't do it.
Besides, why would you want to be arrested? that's what will happen, you know.....
stealing a firearm is a pretty serious crime... what's going to be the defense your lawyer is going to try to prove - "he just wanted to see if he could do it and shock everyone, that's all."

Police are not students, they are adults is this really that
