Clean it until all signs of a sore or wound are gone usually a week or two after the cord stub falls off..
If you gently place your index and middle finger to the sides of the belly button and very gently press down (no more than 1/4 inch) it will cause the belly button to extend out slightly and you can easily see that the area is clean and the wound/ sore is healed completely....
After it's healed completely there is no need to continue special cord care just wash the belly button area along with the rest of the baby at normal bath times...

Once the cord falls off, you never have to use the alcohol again. The alcohol is just to keep the cord from becoming infected, and it helps dry it out so it falls off better. Once it falls off, you can just wash her belly button as you do the rest of her. You can even lay her down for a tub bath now in her baby tub, instead of the newborn sponge bath. Just make sure the water level doesn't reach her ears.

I was advised not to clean the cord with anything. Alcohol dries it out. Just keep it clean and dry and let it fall off as nature intended. Believe it or not, before hospitals and medicine as we know it, etc. the umbilical cord remained attached to the baby AND the birthed placenta until it fell of providing additional nutrients from the cord blood. Some granola-types who are going WAY back to what is natural are into doing this again, making a 'bag' to hold the placenta until the cord falls off. I think they may salt it so it doesn't smell too rank. They then bury it the garden and plant a tree.

I think you can stop now. As soon as the cord falls off, the belly button should be healed enough to be fine. Of course, keep it clean, and if any sign of infection appears see a doctor.

No need unless gross stuff is coming out. My doc actually told me to not bother ever cleaning it with alcohol because the body is designed to let it fall off and heal so she said unless something gets in it to not bother. My DD's took a litle longer to heal though because she has a half innie half outie, lol, so we did have to use ome alcohol a couple times and she was good.

You don't ever need to clean the belly button with alcohol; as long as it is out of the diaper and does not come into contact with feces, it will not get infected.

no longer likely an infection. it fairly is commonly a demonstration that that's therapeutic. Infections could reason the encircling epidermis to be crimson, swollen, and warm to touch. make confident the tummy button isn't being uncovered to the toddler's pee too a lot and proceed to apply alcohol at each diaper substitute to dry up the twine and the goo.

I cleaned it with alcohol until it fell off, and then just washed it with baby soap and water during bathtimes after that.
