We don't owe the black people anything, just like we don't owe the Hispanics, Swedes, etc. The only people who have a legitamate argument of being bedeviled, beguiled, and stolen from are the true Native American Indians. It is time now for all NAtive Americans to receive what is rightfully theirs and I make a personal plea to every member of Congress that might read the yahoo question/answer board to write me now, and I will give to them what I consider to be the right way to take care of the Native American culture that the American Government tried to systematically eliminate, beginning with the Indian removal act, also called the Trail of Tears, to the present Cobbell lawsuit that has found the Government totlaly irresponsible in their handling of Indian trust monies, etc, down through the years.

I think we are entering dangerous territory when we make entitlements on the basis of genealogy. This is what the Nazis used to do, if in reverse. It would be nice if there were mechanisms in place to trace family histories and calculate appropriate remuneration and its likely sources for those affected, but it's getting a long time now, and data are scarce. I guess the best and most feasible way to repay would be full societal integration, and due respect paid through improved manners and enlightened actions.

I'm Black I feel like it's too late for that now, if America was going to repay Blk Americans for slavery then they should have done it when slavery was abolished. It's been several generations and a lot Black people have succeed in this society despite racism. Call me dumb but I don't think it makes sense now.

We can't repay them. The ones who deserve the money are no longer here. There are no black people alive now who had any hardships because of slavery. Secondly , it would take decades to determine who is actually entitled to the money. Not all black people here today had slave ancestors.

I never owned any black people, and I doubt any black people still living has ever been a slave. It is people like you that try to keep things stirred up and drive wedges between the races. There for you are the dummy.

I think we should treat everyone as if they were our friends and teach our kids to do the same so we can all have a better world now , not pay for something we didn't do ,
Just for the record I'm not dumb . Think about what you say before you say it .

Well since we brought them to a much better place than africa was and we did set them free I call it a fair trade. Unless ofcourse they don't like it here then all we owe them is a boat ride back.
