There are many bests...I liked The Green Mile...I hope that was what it was called. A three hour movie that felt like it was too short.
I like the movie Pay It Forward, saw it a long time ago and now it's seemed to spark a lot of interest.
I stay away from movies with a lot of profanity and I prefer those that I can sit down and enjoy with my children...some of the older ones like "Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang, Herbie the Lovebug movies, some of the older slapstick comedies...there are so many to choose from.
There is no best movie ever. It's like you were presented a smorgesborg of all the foods you ever ate and were asked to select one best like ice cream, or maybe choclate, no, steak is the best, but with a baked patatoe, and so on, and so on.
Movies are like the same thing. There is such a variety of every type, those that touch your heart in a sad way and those that make you smile. Those that make you laugh and ones that just make you feel comfortable on a cold winters night.
Sorry, can't answer with just one movie but start with some of those listed above.

Wow, I really loved School of Rock. It seems kiddish and probably is to some people, but it was hilarious to me. I also can't wait to watch Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny if you're up to comedy.
I'm not sure about any sad or meaningful movies. I can't stand crying about something that's not real so no suggestions there.

Primal Fear w/ Richard Gere because the movie was suspenseful and had a very good twist in the end where Richard's character gets "punked".

The Big Blue. I cried my eyes out. Get the European edit or the director's cut, since the North American release has a cop-out ending.
