From 11:30 to 12:30, $2.
12:30 to 1:00, $0.50
1:00 to 1:30, $0.50
1:30 to 2:00 $0.50
2:00 to 2:15 $0.50

Total is $4.

Another way: How long was the car parked? 11:30 to 12 is 1/2 hour, plus 2 hours and 15 minutes = 2 hours and 45 minutes total.

The first hour of that is $2, leaving 1 hours and 45 minutes. 1 hour and 45 minutes divided by 30 minutes gives you 4, when you round up. so $2 + 4($0.50) = $4.

Break into parts and solve
You park a car from 11:30 till 2:15.
The first hour is 11:30 till 12:30.
You have to pay $2 for the first hour.
By 12:30, you pay $2
There is a gap of and hour and 45 minutes between 12:30 and 2:15
Each half hour costs 50 cents.
From 12:30 till 2, there are 3 half-hours. So you pay $1.50 from 12:30 till 2
From 2 to 2:15, there is a gap of 15 minutes. So for that 15 minutes, you pay 50 cents ($0.50 for each additional half hour or part thereof)
Total from 11:30 till 2:15 = 2 + 1.50 + 0.50 = $4

11:30 am-2:15 pm is 2:45
$2 for the 1st hr leaves 1:45 which is 3 1/2 half hrs. You will be charged for 4 half hours @ $.50 per
4*$.50=$2
$2 for the 1st hr +$2 for the additional time=$4

You are in the parking lot for a total of 2 hours and fifteen minutes so...
You will pay $2 from 11:30 to 12:30
from 12:30 to 1:00 you will add .50
from 1:00 to 1:30 you add another .50
from 1:30 to 2:00 you again add .50
and from 2:00 to 2:15 again .50 so you add that all up and get

2.00 + .50 + .50 +.50 + .50 = $4.00

graph this baby
equation is y= .5x +2. Then you can look at your graph and figure it out.

Also, this question is bogus. Are you assuming you put money in at 11:30.
