I sold an item on ebay and the buyer payed with a cashier check. I being stupid, thought the cashier check was good being it was prepaid, but turned out it was a fruaduent check. I cashed in the check and sent the item but the bank is now informing me it was a fake check. I'm pretty sure it is a felony to print out a fake casheir's check and send it across state lines.
What can I do to get my money back? What legal actions can I take? Please help, I'm out $800. Thanks

Your bank has the ability to investigate fraud of this nature. You will need to file a police report, including all paperwork involved in the transaction. FDIC insured banks are required to refund to you any and all monies if you can prove fraud.

I would contact EBay and let them know your situation. Then contact your local police department and see what they have to say about this situation. I am a EBay seller also and this is some advice for you. NEVER send item until check has cleared. After check cleared wait 4-5 days then send item. You can also use pay pal if you are able too. Also you can call the bank of the check and see if it is real right away instead of waiting for the bank. I am sorry to hear about what happened to you and I also am a victim of it. Good luck with your case.

I would file a police report. Clearly you have this person's address as you sent them some merchandise. I would also consider filing suit in small claims court against the person you sent the item to.

Go to the police and also contact the attorney general of your state and report it. But it is unlikely that you will get your money back.
