I'm trying to expand my reggae collection. But I'm having some trouble in finding good reggae. I don't like todays modern reggae that sounds pretty much like rap. In other words, please don't recommend stuff like shaun paul, because that's definately NOT reggae, also, not anything like daddy yankee. I already have Matisyahu, and Bob of course, and the Police. So pretty much, stuff like that is what I'm looking for. Thank you! =)

peace and love,
rob

sorry, I know that "the police" weren't reggae. I included them in there because I would also like things "like" them. Thanks to everyone who wrote in on this one, I really wish I could choose more than 1 for best answer =(

Try: Israel Vibration

Chalice
Melodians
Toots and the Maytals
Jimmy Cliff
Heptones

By the way- as good as they were, the Police were NOT a reggae band.

I lived in Hawaii 12 years ago and Jawaiian music was popular.
Here is a site that has Jawaiian and Reggae with several cuts you can try out.
You might try "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted"
by Jimmy Ruffin, sung by Foxy Brown as a single in 1992-93.

might try the band "big Mountain", and also might try U B 40, and also might try the band called Inner Circle (they put out more music than just the bad boys theme used in the show COPS), might try the band called Jollymon, and might try a Google search on reggae music to find that there is a lot of that genre of music around us
