Being late or even missing a period does not indicate pregnancy. Periods are a hormonal thing. Hormones are stored in fat. Skinny little teenagers or even young women, especially athletic ones, have very little body fat which leads to low hormone levels. This will tend to cause unpredictable periods -- miss two months, back to normal, have a one-day period, miss the next month, back to normal. If she took a test for every missed period the expense would quickly add up.

Nearly every young woman knows of someone who didn't know she was pregnant until the fourth month because she couldn't tell if her symptoms were just low hormone levels or an actual pregnancy. They are just trying to get enough information to tell the difference.

Either because they are young and scared, or they are just asking to be asking something. Some women take pregnancy tests and they come out negative, but their periods are late. If you don't like it, then just don't answer those questions. That is what I do to some of them. Thank you for the 2 points.

They don't want their parents catching them with the home pregnancy tests for one.

Secondly they are ignorant about their own bodies (not to mention birth control and the dangers of sexual activity).

They are ALWAYS convinced it won't be them. If THEY have sex THEY will not get pregnant. It's just DUMB, not to mention neither they or the boys they are with have any respect for themselves or the other person.

Because they are young and don't know that pregnancy is not the only reason for a late period. Too many girls are not told about periods so they don't know what to think when they are late.

Unfortunately, most of them don't have any clue what is going on, and hormones are raging, and they have fallen off the beaten path and here there are now.

Many of them are strapped financially, really scared, and for the most part, you can read in the questions almost desperate.

So, they come here asking for answers that they may already have, but just the reassurance, I suppose, of hearing what ever it is they want to hear.

Pregnancy tests don't work right away - you have to wait for weeks, and it can be really embarrasing to go there (especilly for the 12 year olds who use this site).

Allot of girls are embarrassed to purchase a h.p.t. I also think they ask pregnancy questions on line in place of asking a parent or guardian.

I think some of them are scared or don't have the money. It would put their mind at rest if they went to their local pharmacy though.
