Spell counters are counters you put on specific cards that call for them. Example, when you play Breaker The Magical Warrior you put a Spell Counter on it. You can remove the Spell Counter to destroy a Spell or Trap card on the field AND it boosts Breaker's ATK power by 300. Spell counters usually have the effect of increasing a monster ATK or destroying Spell or Trap cards by removing them from a card. Very few cards utilize Spell counters. The most famous card that uses Spell Counter is Magical Marionette, which has an infinite ATK power/infinite Spell/Trap destruction combo with Gearfried The Iron Knight and Butterfly Dagger-Elma(which is banned because of this combo!). In addition to what has been said before, it's important in certain cases to keep in mind that there are now numerous different types of counters. The field card Clock Tower Prison gets Clock Counters. Alien monsters produce A counters. The B.E.S. group just gets generic counters. Sometimes the difference is important and sometimes not. Cards such as Mega Ton Magical Cannon, Miracle Restoring and Exhausting Spell specify removing Spell Counters from the field but only work with or effect Spell Counters. But the new spell card Counter Cleaner removes all counters from the field regardless of type.

A card that goes beautifully with cards that can hold multiple Spell Counters is Toon Table of Contents, which searches for other cards in the deck with Toon in the name. By running three of this card and using one when a card that gets Spell Counters is out, one can take the other two copies from the deck, play them all, get three Spell Counters on anything eligible, and then on the third and last copy fish for a Toon monster put in for such a purpose. It's a nice way to thin the deck, get three Spell Counters, and search for something of potential use like Toon Cannon Soldier (a handy game-ender when you only need one last bit of damage) all at once.

U can use coins, a dice or something small to put on the card as a spell counter
