i have a scsm intel mother borad and i have a 60gb hard drive do i need sata or ata. how do i know what one to buy if i want to buy a 200gb hard drive? one more question will ata work no mater what?

The last guys answer was a bit deceptive. SATA will only work if the motherboard supports SATA, however I would need to know more info about your motherboard to tell. ATA (also know as IDE) will work on any motherboard (within the last say 10 years that is) so you can always go with that, but SATA is faster so it is preferable if you have it. If you have more info about your motherboard (even a picture could help) I could give you more information.

I think you actually mean IDE instead of ATA. Here is a link to installing an IDE drive:
