what is your opinoin on the new Microsoft Zune versus the Apple iPod?

i kind of like zune b/c of the bigger screen and WiFi. but Apple does have some good stuff to go with their iPod. i think more will be available for the zune. but i just wanna make sure my teen will like it.

yes, i read a whole WEbSite that compared them. and the cost? down here in mississsippi, they cost the same. actually.. Apple: 149.99 Zune:150.00 so actually zune is more expensive. lol

The Zune is a joke! You can not bring anything into it in its original form. Even free pod casts are slapped with MS's DRM limiting it to 3 plays or 3 days. The wi-fi on the Zune will not interface with ANY other wifi network! It seems MS has forgotten who pays the bills, the CUSTOMER! The Zune is nothing but a shill for selling the same crappy music you can get anywhere else for higher prices and you can't transfer it to any other machine. Not only is it NOT compatible with media player, but it doesn't even conform to MS's own Plays for Sure standard. If you don't want to go with Apple Creative, and San Disk are both decent alternatives. The Zune is useless.

Since this is for a teen either will do just as good depending on how their friends react to it. The Zune is newer and is considered fairly stylish and does have more features then an iPod.

The iPod is smaller and easier to carry around, while the Zune is a bit larger but is more comfortable to hold while watching a movie.
The Zune has the same screen ratio as an iPod so some videos may look blocky on it.
The music stores differ greatly and this is an importent thing to think about, does your teen own a lot of CD's or do they just have some money to burn? Apple has a relatively easy to use store and it is cheap to buy singles, while the Microsoft store has comparable prices but with a smaller selection and is trying to catch up on what they have available.
The music stores is more preference then forced to use but they are designed to be used in tandem with the devices they sell, so your teen may have to spend more time converting files just to use a store they like.
There are of course other stores that you can use, like emusic.

Anyways back to the devices.
The iPod is currently considered a cultural icon, so if your teen knows people with iPods they are going to want one far more then any other mp3 player.

There are various differences in hardware, and from what I've read there are issues that have been found with the Zune. So for me it would come down to brand name while other people would choose convenience, I like the Zune better for it's features while the iPod is more of a convenience device. I support Microsoft because of how the money invested in the device is spread while Apple is a company I loath for some of their past actions.

If you go on amazon and compare the user reviews of the Zune versus the iPod, it doesnt even compare. Definitely go with the iPod. I know the whole wifi thing that allows owners to send and share songs to one another sounded interesting, but after I found out that the "sent" song will automatically delete itself after 2 days, doesnt make it seem so special.

I think iPod is the way to go. All signs point to a fast fading Zune (its only the 25th best selling mp3 player on amazon right now). Thus, you wouldnt want your teen will buy a bunch of songs for their Zune and then switch to an iPod down the line and have to waste all of those Zune-only compatible music.

just my 2 cents. I have been an iPod owner for the last 5 years and used to own mp3 players from Sony, Creative Labs and Rio. None of those even come close to the functionality and design of the iPod:)
