The differnece between mosh pits and circle pits?

I've been told that mosh pits are the first 2 or 3 rows on front of the band and the circle pit is when everyones goes around punching and flailing in one huge circle. Is this true?

A mosh pit is a group of people pushing, punching, biting, and kicking each other, (not to be confused with hardcore dancing). A circle pit AKA a pencil pit is a group of people running around in a circle pushing, punching, biting, and kicking eachother, and pushing down anyone in their way.

I've never heard of a circle pit before.... your definition of a "circle pit" is more like a riot.. Mosh Pit.. people go around in the circle and harrast eachother too, depend where you're from though lol, Europe might be different from the U.S. In the States, I have not heard of "circle pit" before. Hope that help :) and btw, what kinda rock are you into :D

I think that mosh pits are the one's with people over 35 in them and a circle pit is what they do at a 10,000 person venue.
Why kiddies, back in the day, mama got her mosh on. It was all in good fun, but there are jerks wherever you go, so the punchers and biters probably punch and bite when waiting for the bus.

the cirlce pit is true. a mosh pit is usually about 5 rows back and its a group of guys getting tossed and pushed around a space just pushing and shoving really hard. its hella fun. if anyone falls down everyone picks you up in NO TIME cause you dont want to get trampled. the first three rows are for crowd surfing

they're basically the same, except for size and location. circle pits are smaller, and sometimes pop up randomly. Mosh pits are big and generally more fun, just help ppl up as soon as they go down.
