A person I know, who I kind of don't like, yet like at the same time, got caught dealing drugs. I have known about his drug dealings for a while. However, he's a smart honors student who has been class treasurer and club president of amnesty international at my school. He went to Nicaragua last last summer to try and fix up the country. Yet, two days ago, he got expelled from school. He's 17 and a half, what's going to happen to him? Is he going to go to jail? Is his life basically over? A lot of people thought he was going to get into stanford university. I kind of feel bad for him, yet I guess he got what he deserved. He should never have dealed drugs, he'll do anything for money. So what's going to happen to him?
Btw, i have never done drugs and i never plan to. He has never asked me to do drugs.

First of all in most states 17 1/2 is considered an adult, so he would be tried as an adult
Next thing, school zone it does not matter how much he had it is zero tolerance in school zone and not only having it but selling it. He could be serious trouble. depends on what state you live in and the laws in your state.

1. He won't be going to Stanford
2. Depends what type of charges are filed (and what type of drugs in some states, in school zone will bring extra) and when they are filed, depending on your state it may be "adult" or "youth". If he is close to 18 they may wait and charge him as an adult to fuc** him over good. If adult, the felony will follow him forever. He will have to note it on job applications (unless he wants to be fired for lying on the application) for 7 years (check that one could be 10 years).
If they charge him as a youth, depending on state etc, can "go away" (so to speak) at 18, and he will be "free of it" and wouldn't count against him in a "three strikes" law type state - or as set by other restrictions by the Courts (pays off fines, community service etc).
It is also possible, hopefully he won't, but if he'll do anything for money.... you can now claim you personally know a drug dealer... that would suc*** wouldn't it...
It is sad to see this happen, hopefully he can get beyond it in a productive way.... dang... Stanford... what a shame he'll miss out (and no - that was not sarcasm)

interior the U. S., properly atleast in Texas, you're an grownup at 17, At 17 you would be arrested and can be despatched to detention center. At 15 definately would be expelled and doubtless could provide up the names of the scholars he's merchandising to. he would be arrested and despatched to Juvenile, in Juvenile he would be placed on probation under the supervision of the state. he will could attend selection college and has to stay out of any style of difficulty on a similar time as on probation. If he has previous costs he could be despatched besides camp. All it fairly is purely till he turns 17 then he would be charged as a grownup and punished as an grownup. now's the time to alter his approaches and make an excellent turn on the wonderful highway. i'm a probation respectable and can tell this 15 twelve months previous that drug money could purchase you some extreme-high quality issues in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it won't purchase you your freedom and a stable way of existence, Sine physique delivers you up or you will get caught and wager what people will blame your parents. It occurs all of the time.

It depends upon several factors. The search has to be legal, and the DA has to decide to press charges. Punishment can range from probation to serious jail time. Most states have a penalty enhancement if dealing within the vacininty of a school. (ie posses more than a certain ammount.)

Being legally under 18, i think they'll probably put him through counselling.....unless of course he's not only dealing but using them, then he'll be put into counselling and rehabilitation both. But generally speaking, he blew his chance in life and well, i do feel sorry for these kind of people you know, who got so close, yet so far. He'll learn his lesson, one way or another. He's only 17 after all, i hope he gets back up on both his feet.

If he was caught dealing near a school zone, he will face additional charges. It also depends on the amount of drugs and which type(s) he was caught selling.
