I'll second anything by Nicholas Sparks (particularly "The Notebook) and "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" by Louis de Bernieres. I would also recommend anything by Nicholas Evans.

The people that suggest the Janet Evanovich books are right on, they are great books. I am up to the 8th "Stephani Plum" book in that series ("Hard Eight") and I can only put it down for a moment to check Yahoo Answers. They are romantic, laugh out loud funny, and they are full of adventure. Anyway, I know I suggest this a lot but it is also a great book. It is by Diana Gabaldon and it is called "Outlander". Well, I have to get back to Stephanie, Ranger, and Joe Morelli. Happy Reading!!

I absolutely love Christina Dodd, check out the Lost Princesses series, the last book in the trilogy just came out and it was a great, quick read. The names of the books are: Some Enchanted Evening, The Barefoot Princess and The Prince Kidnaps a Bride. Dodd's characters are strong, intelligent women and I've grown really attached to them! :)

For fun romantic books that are great for vacations, read Janet Evanovich - they've got spunky characters. For some of the best of literature, Jane Austen's(Pride and Prejudice or Persuasion) or Charlotte Bronte (Jane Eyre). And of course one very popular author is Nora Roberts.

Without a doubt Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (Don't let the genre scare you-it is a fantstic story!), and the Mediator series by Meg Cabot.

You may try "Corelli's Mandolin" by Louis De Bernieres, I saw the film on telivision so I think the novel should be fine. I'm sorry I've not read it so I can't tell you regarding its literary value.
Enjoy!
