A couple of things:
In order to get good at fielding you have to do it a lot.Use every opportunity you can find to shag flies. shag them for your team , shag them for another team , shag them for Little leaguers,it doesn't matter .
Become a Labrador retriever out there ,chase down everything- you will get good.
One of the keys to playing outfield [ actually all positions ] is knowing what you will do w/ the ball before it is put into play; know how many outs you have , the speed of the runners on base etc.
Hitting is another story. Switch to the lightest legal bat you can use and if you are in a slo-pitch league place your self deep in the batters box and wait for the pitch to come down to you.
Little League Inc has two Canadian guys named AL&AL that run instructtional clinics for coaches and umpires . They are excellent instructors and i highly reccomend their manuals and videos explaining the fundamentals of the game. Google AL&AL
As far as the remark about rightfielders goes - yes at a certain level of competition the person who plays right field is of no connsequence. However when the competition gets bettter and hitters learn to hit behind the runner then the right fielder becomes the most skilled outfielder-
I can tell you from experience that nailing a guy going frrom first to third is one of life's simple but great pleasures
So work on your skills over the winter and come back in spring and surprise the heck l out of them.

Sure, just go out and have fun. I tried sports that I wasn't the greatest at= my midget football team; we went 0-9 and I lead the team in rushing with 1/2 a yard for the season. I played basketball and our team finished 0-12 and I only scored 8 points for the whole season. While I wasn't very good at either sport, I had a lot of fun playing them and made a few friends along the way.

So you got nervous it doesn't mean you shouldn't play. It if the most fun I ever had playing baseball. Don't give up the more you play the better you will get. As long as you are having fun it doesn't matter if you are the worst or the best player on the field. I feel if you aren't having fun you might as well be at work.

Are you having fun when you play, regardless of the outcome? If yes, then you should try out again, but if you're not having fun it might be time to hang up the cleats.

definately. You could learn a lot from it! I personally dont do it because i have found out i dont like it myself but you shouldnt just not do it because of that one incident. you could learn a lot of things from it and may find yourself very good at it
my quote: "try your best and you may be the best!" thats what keeps me moving and movitated. and wen your at tryouts you do not say " i cant do this" you have to say " i CAN do it"
