I have the Ubuntu live CD. I want to install it. It says that I need to partition the disk. My options are:

•Resize IDE1 master, partition #1 (hda1) and use free space
•Erase entire disk: IDE1 master (hda) - 60.1 GB
•Use the largest continous freespace
•Manually edit partition table

Which should I do?

I never use my computer as it does not have an internet connection. Therefore it has very little data on it. The first option takes forever. I really don't want to erase everything if I don't have to. But I will, if it is needed.

Is the computer being used for anything? If so, then you probably want the first option. Option 2 above will destroy that info. Option 3 may not be useful if the existing drive doesn't have enough (or any) freespace. Option 4 is used when you really know what you want.

I'd go with the third option, as long as the largest contiguous space is 6 gigabytes or over, this would be the fastest way, if you like it, you can use a third party partitioner to expand the size of the linux partition, be careful to be sure that its a third party partitioner that will do so non-destructively (wont destroy any data on the other partitions). good luck, enjoy linux
