Post 2002 riots, there has been a tremendous change in Ahmedabad. The cultural divide between the two communities has increased. The educated masses of both the communities are not bothered and are making their way by either shifting away from the city to abroad or to other better cities of India. Those who do not have any option are living there either contributing in reducing the hatred or increasing the same.
Ahmedabad is severely missing the IT boom and so the employment opportunities are very poor in IT sector. Due to its incompetency in IT sector, Ahmedabad is loosing steam and I feel in the long run, this city will not be able to sustain its growth.
There are a few good BPOs like Motif and Azure. However, these companies are too small to make Ahmedabad's presence in BPO sector noticeable for big companies. The BPO sector has also not developed as compared to the late entrants like Jaipur or Mysore.
As far as safety of women is concerned, Ahmedabad remains to be at top. The city remains to be a highly safe city.
Plenty of new malls have opened in Ahmedabad and all are doing very good business as an avg. Ahmedabadi ( Amdavadi ) is highly impressed and influenced by US / UK culture.
Most of the restaurants are doing excellent business as Amdavadis love eating out.
Above all, for an Ahmedabadi, it remains to be the best place on earth.

After the communal pograms carried out sysematically by the existing government, headed by Modi,in 2002, Feb. onwards, Ahemedabad has gone for a toss with little traces of decency, humane-ness and is still buzzing with abusive and hate talk. The Muslims have had to pay a very heavy price due to genocidal actions carried out by Hindu extremists [ in particular, RSS and Bajrang Dal]. Outside Gujarat, Modi's government has no credibility because he is considered as worse than a criminal, as a mass killer, based on communal lines. Since then Modi government [ basically BJP]has not discontinued the aggression though the genocidal action works miniminastically. The few killings sends fear and loathing to the Muslims. By now, muslim business and entrepenuership has also gone for a toss. Immediately after the pogrons of 2003, when an entire Muslim community was tainted with guilt for the action of a few Islamic terrorists / fundamentalists. This is Hitlerism, who is being eulogized in scoool level text-books.There prevail a continous hate propaganda directed against Muslims, who have nothing to do with terrorism or fundamentalism. A miniscule percent may be catagorized as terrorist. Today Muslims are getting.increasingly getting ghettoized, beginnin with Ahemedabad [ a name that is hated by communalHindus dut to the bias about Muslim names.
But India is a democratic country and the central government cannot dismiss Modu egime due to democratic protocals; so the only way left to oust them from power is through democracy. In a vitiated melieu, few human rights workers, aid workers, ngo personnel, researchers and some legal minded individuals. like Teeasta are involved in concrete activities such as providing basic aminities to thousand of riot affected people, such as shelter , food and councilling, but this is not at all liked by the existing regime. There persons, including Human Right's activists, TV crew, film-makers have drawn unfounded and degenerate ostricism and virulant abouse by Modi Govt.Yet, since India is democratic, I feelthat the entire regime together with their mindset will will have to face the wrath of the innocents who have perished or families who are currently stationed in camps /shelters under the pall of gloom, despir. Very few are oriented toward thinking about end-points of their lives, after having lost everything and means to maintain materials and tools that earlier means to execute and obtain livelihoods. Muslims are majorly ghettoiized.. Modi is not allowed to set fot on US and many European states.Even the inmates in makeshift camps are not sure about the next day.Jobs, as a rule are denied to Muslims. There shops, placementin firms, jobs have been on the edge for a long time. They are involved , mainly,in finding strategem for alternate life and style at the low ends of economy, like waste collecttion
I am sure that the people in Ahmaadad want a quick ballot, not referendums to get out of the morrass. At the same time , after having collected from among the finest evidentiory, corruption items an obscure relation comes alike, more as a firefly is just not guarentee. The service sector's prsemce is just about OK.In diplomatic term,s USA has not allowed Modi to even enter theor copntryBut I like the open-forum, some of then may even, at some future day, open their goodies such as coconut based liquor, coffe liquor.. Everything should be done properly and preferrabily, these can be linked up to large panels, less historiscists.
What is happening in Ahemedavad is the crystellization of communal divides and early stages of fascism.Only those, who are involved in raid and resqueue and maintaining an iota of goodwill so that riots and pogrom do not occur, except some minor instances and those involved in maintaining infrascture in the camps. I can refer to Harsh Mandar's writings for knowing whatever is growing creepely.
I have been to Ahemadabad to work and findig results in National Occupation and Safety close to 15 years ago. Even then I did not like the ambience though the situation had not deteriorated.Currentle new apartments have come up, where Muslims are denied residential liscence to stay.
