No, I think the experiments that are done on "humanized" rodents and higher mammals should just be done on people. I say abolish animal testing all together: it's so cruel! Besides, the data varies so much from species to species that we should just go right into people to try and find new medicines and the root of terrible human diseases.

Imagine how much faster we'd cure Alzheimer's, cancer, and MS if we just went right in and tested on convicts and orphans.

Okay, enough sarcasm. But seriously, man has been manipulating the genome of plants and animals for at least 20,000 years (see animal husbandry and horticulture.) The only difference now is that with genetic engineering we can do it specifically and quickly and actually help people with it.

Not everything should be done just because we can, but isn't man part of nature? If nature/divine entity endowed us with reason to discover these technologies, then isn't that natural, too?

i would like to know why they are doing this. seems to me it would make disease transmission between species too easy. This is a big worry to scientists, but without knowing why they are doing it, I can't really say whether I think it is right or not.

I think it is amazing that medical science has come so far and that we are so close to developing life-saving procedures such as xenotransplantation.
