A recent convert to the radical Islamic faction has been arrested in a plot to bomb a mall just before Christmas. Is the threat of a Islamic continuation of the Holy Wars real?

Geek, I assure you, as one who has several Muslim friends, Muslims who believe that there is room for all faiths, I know there are kooks in all areas. This is not a wholesale attack on the Muslim faith. Thanks

It really seems to me that a segment of the population may not be taking it as seriously as others. There was a question here earlier with a link to an Israeli newspaper/website today that reported Hamas met with leaders of the EU & Democratic party. As to how accurate the report was remains to be seen. But I feel there are biases that want troops home before the war is won. You read it everyday here and in the papers. I felt this was an important story to bring up.

Ummmmm YES. Look at the news about Iraq lately? Talk to any military whose just gotten back from Iraq lately? I, along with most of us, Nancy Pelosi and Hilary Clinton excluded, believe the threat to be real and stand ready to defend our families, our beliefs (Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, etc) way of life, and our allies. By the way, I'm from Detroit and love the Dearborn area. I've never had a problem with and have always enjoyed the company of the arab/muslim population in the area. I would venture to say that those who would threaten this nation will attempt to blend in until such time as they begin to actually carry out their attack. Of course, that's me!

A recent convert??? Doesn't that give it away. This poor idiot tried to trade his stereo speakers for hand grenades!! What could he possibly have to do with any holy war except by accident?

Comment on one of the answers: Luring them to iraq and fighting them there??? How is that working out as a strategy?

I lived w/ many Muslims in Dearborn, Michigan.

I can assure you that the Muslims that I met here don't want this kind of thing.

However, yes, there are always crazies in every religion, and sometimes there are whole groups of crazies.

Can you please, with some level of accuracy, point out any segment of the population that doesn't take seriously the possibility of terrorist activity? I'd be quite happy to engage in a reasonable conversation on that, though this is not supposed to be a discussion forum.

The threat is taken seriously. That's why the guy had been under close investigation for a few months and was caught.
