I bought 3 violins from e-bay.
1) was very antique - I paid about $40.00 for it. It was a little more fragile than I wanted; so I sold it for enough to get money back including shipping.
2) I bought a 3/4 violin for a student. It is nice enough I could get my money back for it.
3) I bought a 3/4 size antique- had a very nice sound-only paid about $35 dollars including shipping.
First you need to check the feedback rateing of the seller to make sure he has a very good rateing. The product has to be at least as good as they say it is in the add or you can give them a bad rateing. If you buy it and it is not as stated in the auction, you can first notify the seller and see if they will make it good before you give bad rateing, because that may cause them to make it good.
You can also ask seller a question and make sure it is what you need in an instrument.Ask seller where instrument came from, how old it is , what comes with it. How much is shipping, if they don't tell you the shipping don't bid, i have seen violins with an unreal shipping and they did'nt tell you that, you had to ask. When I shipped an instrument once it did cost about $20.00 several years ago.

First be alert for counterfeit. Get to know the feedback of the individual and it returns are possible just in case they don't run with the money. Be sure the brand of the violin is well know by researching. When you are confident than go with your gut instinct.

do they show you all the sides of the violin?Make sure its how you want it like ex.no scratches because sometimes they dont show that on ebay because they want the person to buy it.

If it looks ok, but you feel it's no use, to you then why waste your money. Send your $80.00 dollars to me instead. Dummy.
