The vagina doesn't necessarily "stretch." What happens is an event called Vaginal Relaxation. This is the weakening of the supporting structures of the vagina. Specifically these structures are muscles along your pelvic floor, the most important of which being the pubococcygeus. This can lead to a variety of problems including urinary incontinence and loss of sexual gratification. When the vagina is bigger in diameter, there is less pressure exerted on the penis and less friction created within the vagina during intercourse. This can lead to lower levels of stimulation and pleasure for both partners.

There is a field called "Vaginal Rejuvenation" that provides the solutions to these problems. Vaginal Rejuvenation is aimed at strengthening and tightening the muscles of the vagina through one of 3 primary methods:

1. Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery
This is a laser procedure. You would want to do this when you are done having children. Since it is expensive you wouldn't want to have to do it more than once.

2. Exercises such as Kegels
These exercises involve strengthening your pelvic muscles by contracting your vagina with or without a weighted object inside. Like all exercise, you would have to keep up with a routine to see the best results.

3. Vaginal Rejuvenation Pills
Herbal supplements aimed at restoring strength and muscle control to your vaginal muscles in order to reduce the inner diameter of your vagina. With your vagina restored to the state it was in before childbirth, your sex life will be restored as well.

If you are personally worried about your vagina becoming more loose after childbirth, you don't have to worry too much about it. There are a lot of factors that come into play with how well your body can recover from childbirth (age, level of fitness, etc). But if all else fails you can take advantage of one many different methods to tighten your vagina.

Search on Yahoo for Vaginal Rejuvenation and you will find more info.
