i can't find any good sites that would give me info on this topic.
here are some of the things i need to know:

when did they come?
where did they land?
what did they hope to find?
why did they leave their homeland?
how did they adjust to the united states?

Here is a very well documented example of french immigrants with all the background you ask for. It is in New Paltz, around 3 hours north of New York City on NY Thruway, a very nice and intereting place to go.
