After watching the evening news, one news story in particular prompted this question. NBC news reported that former inhabitants of public housing destroyed by hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, were demanding that housing projects destroyed in the storm be refurbished despite the cost to the tax payer.(because that is ultimately who pays for public works projects) What gives, how on Earth can an adult demand that they receive free or reduced cost housing at the expense of other people?
At what point in time did the responsible, employed and productive become responsible for the able but unwilling?

Come on. People need a place to live. You should care more about your taxes paying for the mess in iraq because that costs billions of dollars more. Anyhow that disater should never have been allowed to get as bad as it did in new orleans.

I say that the present victory for the "left" is short lived - like countless issues human. The republicans opt to adhere to what's staggering and in 4 years there'll be a republican counter-sweep. in the journey that they stick in common words to what's nice, and by no skill to what's staggering then they wait 8 years. that's thoroughly autonomous of a few thing that Hilary, Obama or the Democrats do. You cant be on the suitable of the hill and by no skill make mistakes. finally human beings get bored with your mistakes, and want the mistakes of someone who's rather different from you. each and each and every party makes the faux assumption that it really is the human beings. No party is the human beings. the anybody is the human beings, and they were round lengthy earlier both party. The party that serves the understandings, the pastimes, the targets, and values of the human beings will do nicely. the only which does no longer - received't. there's a pendulum: - a thoughts left for the duration of Carter - a thoughts precise for the duration of Reagan/Bush - a thoughts left for the duration of Clinton - a thoughts precise for the duration of Bush - a thoughts left for the duration of Obama if you don't like math - it extremely is 33 years of historic past. it truly is how human beings in u . s . a . of america paintings. The pendulum swings precise - then left - then precise. Which way is it going to swing next? The question is in no way even if its going to swing, only at the same time as and how. in case you grow to be a really-liberal because of the position the pendulum is now - you get to attend ... oftentimes 4 presidential words (it extremely is 16 years) earlier you get a second interior the solar.

I don't have a problem with paying five more dollars in taxes so these people can have their homes back. I agree with James on this one. These people lost their homes because the government failed them and I'm not talking about the current. That problem should have been taking care of years ago, I think Americans shouldn't even have to ask or demand when something like this happens. It should be one of those times when every citizen comes to the aid of the fallen and stretches out a helping hand. All this me me me, my my my attitude is growing very old to me..

When any country in the world suffers destruction due to the natural forces of nature, the United States immediately sends aid to that country in the form of millions of taxpayer dollars.. When Hurricane Katrina struck our own population was ignored for days with water and help withheld by our government which included the Red Cross and Fema.

Working people pay tax so therefore it is an entitlement as they contribute from their weekly salary.

We can send people into outter space on taxpayer money but we could not get them water so that their children did not have to die.

I am grateful the system is there (social security, food stamps, etc etc) I beleive that the attitude of entitlement has gone to far. Everytime I see the deductions from my paycheck I wonder how many kids I am supporting that I didn't get to have any fun in help make

Way too far! It's not just adult Katrina victims. Our children are growing up with this attitude. Check out "Sweet 16" on MTV. I blame the current public school system (another welfare case) and parents who just can't say "no" to their kids. I am a parent who says NO and we home school our children.

"At what point in time did the responsible, employed and productive become responsible for the able but unwilling?"

I suggest you read a little history; it has ever been thus.

I'm sure you are one of those people who also think that "the youth of today" have no respect for their "elders".

Human beings have changed little in their attitudes for hundreds and hundreds of years.

I agree with you completely. I'm a compassionate person, but I don't feel bad for the people who just want to take and who think they are entitled to it.
