Harry Potter - ever so famous wizard. This book is so great, it feels like you personally know the characters, I can't even begin to describe the magic hidden within each page of each book
Lemony Snicket - amazingly tragic and happy. I also can't explain the amazingness of these books.
So B. It - such a wonderful story simply about life. This girl's mother is mentally challenged, and goes on a journey to find her father, and learns many lessons on her way
Thin Wood Walls - a story about a Japanese American boy growing up during World War II
Nory Ryan's Song - it's about a young girl growing up in Ireland long ago. She is struggling to help herself and others around her survive, and goes above and beyond to help others. It's amazing.
Christian: The Cross of Lead - another great story about a young boy whose mother dies and is declared a wolf head, meaning that anyone can kill him on the spot. He runs away and makes a few new friends, along with discovering the truth of his mother, father, and himself
Nothing But the Truth - this book was written in 1991, yet so ahead of its time. Every teen can relate to this book. It's about a boy in high school and his teacher. It shows what can happen when the smallest flame turns into the biggest of fires.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants - perferably for girls, because every girl can relate to this. It's about how a group of four friends share the same pants, each going on their own journeys, each finding out more and more about themselves as they wear them
Heartbeat - this book was very touching, because it showed how the simpleness of life can be all you'll ever need, and more than enough
I really hope this helps. I love all of these, and I'm thirteen. I think every teen should read them at least once.

That's really sweet of you to donate books to a needy kid!
Most people have already mentioned the Harry Potter and Lemony Snicket books. I'd also add the Artimis Fowl series and Philip Pullman's "Golden Compass" series. If it's a girl, Meg Cabot's "The Princess Diaries" series is actually quite good. The book "Ella Enchanted" is excellent and Tamora Pierce has a good following.

Harry Potter, Eragon, Artemis Fowl, Lord Of The Rings(Maybe)...
You should check out the teen/young adult section in the book store. A Series Of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket is good. Alice In Wonderland is a really good book, I don't really know if people still read it, but it is a good book so if you got that they would probably like it..

possibly get her a classic, thats whilst i all started entering into them. Dont get truly heavy ones like war and Peace, yet attempt those classics I enjoyed whilst i replaced into 13: To Kill A Mocking fowl Jane Eyre Anne Frank Wuthering Heights Or attempt a Shakespeare, yet placed into present day-day language, she would be waiting to love extremely romance so how approximately Romeo and Juliet? If no longer, i actually enjoyed those: Hush Hush with the help of Becca Fitzpatrick The statement with the help of Gemma Malley The Host with the help of Stephanie Meyer ( I enjoyed this extra effective than Twilight) Checkmate and different books interior the series with the help of Mallorie Blackman

When I was 13, I was heavy into Asimov, but I think it's a bit dated now... Terry Pratchett's Discworld books are a blast. A lot of the characters are good role models for teens while being a little subversive at the same time (just like my oldest, Nick)!

thirsty (By M.T. Anderson). Its kind of psychologically disturbing but, thats why i (and alot of other kids) like it. Goosebumps is not a good idea. Maybe for 9 year olds but not 13.
for boys definetly do not get lemony snicket. There is also a book called Transail Saga, which i read when i was in 2nd grade (A huge accomplishment, as it was 350 pgs.)
