I am a female. I am not an anti-feminist, but I just like all kinds of humor. In commercials, shows, movies, etc., why do they almost ALWAYS make the male the one to be beat up, hurt, or ridiculed. I almost feel sorry for them. If men and women are equal, why can't I finally see a woman get beat upside the head under a comedic context?!

Sweetie, you are so close to waking up to the lie that is feminism and the harm it has done to our society. Keep questioning.

Julie? The men aren't laughing. Because it isn't funny.

You're absolutely right, there is a double standard, but since I don't think seeing a woman getting hit is funny, the only solution would be for us to demand the media show more women in a physically confrontational situation that isn't offensive... such as two women settling their differences by mud wrestling, or showing them getting a little spanking when they've been naughty.
The funny part would be to listen to the outcry's of the feminists.

I've seen some commercials from foreign countries where the woman has an accident for comedic effect. However, you'll NEVER see one of those in an English-speaking country.

That stupid show "king of queens", does it all the time, and I just feel like reaching through the TV and slapping that woman. All she does is help feed into the growing concern that all women are nagging b*tches with double standards.

Well, yes, in our society in the media men are the "victims" of "comedic violence"...baseball to the crotch, etc. I think this is because of the societal bias towards males that says men are "tough" and can "take it," so in physical comedy where someone is getting hurt, it's always the male. With, women, another bias applies that says women are "delicate" and need to be protected, and so, our society would not see that as being as funny...don't you think? Conversely, however, in dramas, where the violence is serious, and much more insidious, women are mainly the victims (speaking in terms of dramas on TV and movies in general). Of course, this is portrayed much more "sympathetically" for the woman, but it is there, nonetheless. Why is this? It is because of social biases that dictate the "male= strong/female=weak dichotomy, and it doesn't serve either one with any justice. And, personally, I think our society is too preoccupied with violence, either way.
EDIT--
And "Serin" is wrong. Feminists disagree with BOTH social biases that would paint men as "tough enough" (as if they don't feel pain just as much) and the bias that would paint women as the "perpetual victim." This ideal of woman as victim as portrayed in the media only hurts feminism, it's beliefs, and what it's trying to accomplish. You only have to google "woman as victim" along with "feminism" to find this out. Seriously, it won't take long to find the real answer. And Serin, (and others who have answered similarly) do some research before you talk about issues you have not bothered to educate yourself on.
EDIT--
Well, "Serin" (who obviously thinks it's "brave" to EMAIL someone-BIG man! Why would I be "afraid" of an email, exactly?) I would say your research is lacking, I've studied this FOR YEARS, so I'm sorry if your two minutes on google was less than fruitful. Point taken, the Internet is STILL not a viable source for rigorous research. In that I concede to you.
And, as you said, the "perpetual victim" notion was "largely ignored" by your findings, yet you then CONJECTURE otherwise, based on your own biases; interpreting things that are merely factual as crying "victim." The point was that feminist's reject the "perpetual victim" role, and NOWHERE in your findings did you find otherwise, your biased conjecturing aside. Women ARE (for example) living below the poverty line in much greater quantities than men, and to bring awareness to that issue is in no way succumbing to a "victim" role. Oh. and, I'm sorry if I hurt your little feelings by DISAGREEING with you (gasp!) but I'm gonna go ahead and stick around, thanks anyway.
And if anyone wants to learn more about this, read Naomi Wolf's book "Fire with Fire," it discusses the importance of the rejection of "victim" roles for women, and for a brief overview, see the website "ifeminists.com".

You see men get beat up because men are seen as powerful, and they can fight back. Women are seen as weak, and hitting someone who's weak isn't funny. You don't see small children hit for comedy either, do you?
Here's another double standard: when a successful woman is profiled, she's usually attractive. You don't see a lot of positive articles about successful women who are obese.

Many people perceive women as "victims" (note one of the answers above me). They wish to paint all women as helpless little darlings who can't fend for themselves, thus they get a terrible case of the vapors when they see ANY violence against women, even if it's just a joke. You may not consider yourself anti-feminist, but a feminist viewpoint of this is the polar opposite of yours. Feminists aren't known for having a sense of humor.

Edit: In response to the cowardly chick below (who doesn't allow e-mails. Ooo, someone might have a different opinion!) I decided to do her inane little Googling exercise. And what do I find:

http://www.umsl.edu/~rkeel/200/feminism.html

Problem: Patriarchy

Role of women as Victims largely ignored.

http://www.amazon.com/Who-Stole-Feminism-Women-Betrayed/dp/0684801566

(Great book. Everyone should read it.)

And those are just the ones that ADMIT to thinking like that. If anyone ever studied feminism (which I have. oh-em-gee, I've done RESEARCH), every "issue" they promote primarily depicts women as victims. Want to argue for abortion? Play for sympathy by saying if it's banned women will be dying in back alleys. Want to argue for greater pay? Opine about how poor women are and how they're starving trying to feed their families. Want more money to feed the domestic violence industry juggernaut? Get a bunch of horrific, apocryphal stories that represent a fringe minority and paint all women as suffering as much.

And if that fails, tell they opposition they have no idea what they're talking about without citing any sources. Any of this seem familiar to you?

Now go away.

Because feminists would be outraged if the female got beat up. while men just think its funny as they know that it is not for real
