I litterally want to leave from the hospital to the airport. Is that safe for the baby? The flight will only be about 30 min (orange county to sacramento).
Or should we drive? That will take about 8 hours, but at least the air pressure won't change; which is why I was told not to fly (by my grandmother).

i would talk to your doctor first and he/she would be the best person because they will know how you and your baby are doing. I took my son on a flight from Sacramento to Kansas City and we had a layover in Phoenix. He was almost 5 months old at the time. I had a diaper bag with formula and water ready to go and I had a pacifire. He acctually slept the whole way there and back. He was kinda fussy in the airport but when we got on the plane he drank on the way up and fell back asleep. Good luck and God Bless you all.

Provided you and the baby are healthy, there is NO inherent risk to flying. Pressure changes might be somewhat uncomfortable, but the cabin pressure doesn't change enough to threaten anyone in good health.
However, do be prepared. Call the airport for ideas on making the trip smoothly as well as requesting the most direct path.. Over-pack your diaper bag with essentials and possibly some infant Tylenol (talk to the doctors in the hospital first though).
Also, be sure to buy an extra airplane seat for the car seat. Otherwise you'll have to carry your baby in your lap and it's not as fun as it might sound.
I traveled by plane when my daughter was around 3 months old. I hated it, but most of my chagrin was due to how short-notice the flight arrangements were made. While I did luck out on most trips that I could keep the car seat with me, one of my flights had me holding my daughter with a poopy diaper. I had expected to change it between flights, but my previous flight had been late and I had to run to a different terminal to get to that one.
Finally, never get T-Mobile, at least not right before traveling. I was royally screwed over with a mistake THEY made. What little enjoyment I had of my flight was taken over by the fact that I couldn't make any calls on my cell phone if something happened. I'd have to trust that the airport pay phones were in good order.

you can travel as soon as you are feeling up to it after delivery, but remember the first 6 weeks or so the baby will not be on your schedule, and sleeping only 2-3 hrs at a time. You may want to wait until he's 2 months old or more for a real trip.

If you have a healthy baby and you are very careful, you can probably travel with the baby at 3 months old.
I flew from the West Coast to the East Coast with a 2 months old baby, but we were prepared for every type of emergency (Baby B'Air special infant airplane vest, car seat, breast milk, formula, bottled water, purell, baby items, extra blankets/clothing, etc.)
The Flying With Kids website is a good resource for air travel with a baby.

~If you are actually asking this question seriously, please consider putting the poor kid up for adoption. Several things are pretty obvious by your question:
1. You have not spent enough time learning about newborns or you wouldn't have even considered popping the kid out and sash shaying to the airport.
2. Assuming you have had some medical care during your pregnancy, you presumably never bothered to ask your doctor who might know a little more than folks on this site.
3. Obviously, this is your first kid, or if not, you certainly heal quickly. Most women, with half a brain, could figure out what the change in air pressure in flying or what a 8 hour drive by car (especially if the driver has to brake fast) would do to her post birthing body -- especially if she has stitches from an episotomy.
But hey. It's your body and your kid. Let us know, however, how you enjoyed the trip.

do not take an airplane wait until their atleast 1 year old. The best thing to do. I never went on a plane till that age. Drive may take longer but no risks to the baby. (unless there's a crash).
