What does a knowledge organisation mean? How does a business/organisation achieve to become one?

Please explain in simple terms. Thanks.

A knowledge organization (also known as a think-tank) is a group of people who work to solve problems. Some work to solve global issues, some are set up within corporations to solve corporate issues. Some are used for military. At least, that is the extent of my "knowledge" on the issue. I don't know how you go about becoming one, but they typically operate on grants or funding from wealthy donors.
