I am in the middle of my residency and after much deliberation, I have decided to leave medicine for Wall Street. People that I have spoke with feel that consulting would be a good way to transition. I would rather either get my MBA or start low down in one of the major players like Merrill Lynch or Goldman.

I really could use some guidance preferably from a seasoned Ibanker or an MD who has made the switch. Or from someone who knows of an MD who has made the switch.

Thanks in advance.

WOW... I wasn't going to answer this question, but after reading that first one (or most of it) I feel compelled to reply. Yes, it is a blessing to be able to help someone. It is also a blessing to be happy and satisfied in your work. It is possible to help others in almost any profession, but it is not possible to be happy if you want to be somewhere else. I may not set boken bones or remove brain tumors, but my job is rewarding and beneficial to others. As a tax professional, I help others know how to make the most of their money and keep more of it. I help hurricane victims and people whose homes have burned down get some relief quickly. My job may not be as "important" as others, but it matters to one client at a time. You can help people as you choose, from being a garbage collector to being a neurosurgeon, to being a retail clerk. Your attitude is what matters, not your job. You are not selfish for wanting to be happy in your profession, you are smart. You will be better able to work with others, to have a happy home life, and to be a pleasant and positive person if you are happy in your job. You are also likely to become ill less frequently, less likely to become alcohol or drug dependent, and less likely to get divorced, according to varoius studies. Go for it, be happy, and accept the grateful thanks of those you make money for :)

One of the highest honors a man or women could possess is helping another human by the hands of medicine. To completely turn your incite all around to the opposite platform of money surrounded by corruption and embarrassment is crazy. I am independent and do not have to work ever again at 39. I understand your question and find the saddest part is your a weak man. It would be one thing to finish what you start and find another career. You are what make us weak. A man only has his word. We should always finish what we start especially for such a field that truly is in high demand. Have you looked in the mirror and realized the truth. If you do not have the balls to look at persons one on one ...what kind of banker could you possibly be. The industry is looking for men and women that have people savvy. I know exactly how high mal practice insurance is along with the debt occurred and have several doctors within my family.
The only truth worth of a man is the one who keeps his nose to what he decided first. I do not mean to be so brash but find your question an oxymoron. Why would anyone want to help you in a career when they observe that you are a quitter before you have
even finished your first task. Never any harm in a man changing his mind. You will regret your ignorance when you see the only true path to riches are by the hard work you put into something and give it value and then start a new.....you should be ashamed of yourself. grow man balls dude !!!!
